Introducing the engine we will be putting in our 1973 Mustang. Trust your eyes, you counted correctly. 12 cylinders. This Jaguar 5.3L V12 will be front and centre for our build, and will transform the mustang from base model, into the MACH 12!

I’m super excited for this build, in my head I’m thinking that I’m building a budget Ferrari Daytona, or Lamborghini Espada, dream cars that I could never hope to afford. Hopefully this can bring even a fraction of the experience into my beer budget life. Stay tuned for the episode!

Bbesides being near and saying you did it what reasons lead you to this? How much power will you be making? Dont these cap out around 300?

From what I understand, they’re built to make 5 or 600, but the porting and manifolds take them back to 300. Or something like that.

Had a Jaguar XJS with a V12, loved the engine but the car was too heavy and the transmission was bad. Figured this was the best solution to the problem.

What will you use for a transmission? I’d be afraid of having a complex, underpowered engine. I can’t base that on anything but what I’m supposing. But Jaguar...

Not underpowered at all really, makes about the same as a 351. Still only 5.3L. It’s going to have a Tremec 5 speed.

Almost 300 HP according to Wikipedia. And 300 torques. Is yours an HE? Supposedly, the HE improved efficiency by 50% at the same power output.

The bellhousing is custom, made for installing a 5 speed into the XJS or the V12 E-Type, a swap which has been done before. My engine is an HE engine, and I believe it’s one of the lucky few to have 12.5:1 compression. It should make OK power!

I’m in Toronto, Canada! Hopefully will have the thing together soon, we’ll be taking it to car shows of course. There are headers but they’re really expensive, I’ll stick with manifolds for now, but might have to make my own headers if it doesn’t fit.

That bell housing must be pricey too. There can’t be a huge market for them...
