Im allergic to two things in particular:

1. Tumbleweeds (Russian Thistle)...good thing I’m never in the deserts of the southwest....

Kinja'd!!!

2. The giant trees in my backyard (Mullberry)...good thing im never in my back yard either...

Kinja'd!!!

The good news is that the new program of ingesting and inhaling all the allergy drugs that ever were is helping and I can breath again. The bad news is that my “allergy season” is from “March to October”. Oh is THAT all? The other good news is that I’m a candidate for allergy shots, so hopefully that kills this issues once and for all. Tired of being temporarily asthmatic.

Just punch a straw into your lungs. Voila! Better than a breathe right strip.

There is only one solution:

The ability to buy loratadine over the counter is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me.

Man I’ve considered that but once the leaves are out I’m not affected and they do wonderful shade things to me house and yard. Plus have you priced out giant tree removal? Allergy shots will be cheaper!

Add locally sourced honey to your diet for an allergy boost as well.

I’ve heard that. I will have to look around.

Allergy shots were expensive and a pain in the ass, but also a godsend and worth every penny and minute involved.

It’s crazy how expensive tree removal is, but then again it’s a lot of work that requires a lot of expensive equipment. I priced out removing a big maple tree near my house, estimates came in around $2000-2500. Decided to trim it and live with it. I actually had one “tree guy” show up in an old Grand Marquis (square body), and write out an estimate on a sheet of notebook paper to remove it for $400. For that price he most certainly would’ve dropped the thing ON my house, and disappeared into the ether.

I have a humongous elm behind my garage that shades my whole backyard, and my neighbor’s yard too. I shudder to think what it might cost if we ever had to remove it.

I have a humongous elm that I’m pretty sure I DO need to remove since it looks half dead and it’s way past it’s expected lifespan. I’ll let you know once the city approves the removal.

yup, just trimming was crazy expensive. So I do it myself. So long as its not spring its never been an issue.

Thanks, I am genuinely curious. Right now it’s pretty healthy, but there’s a nasty spot of shedding bark on the side of the trunk, so I’m worried long term.

I just paid $1200 to have it done. Trees are too tall to reach from the ground. I don’t climb.

I am also allergic to only two things:

1: work

2: hard work

Allegra has never worked for me. It’s benadryl at night and Flonase during the day for me

We have two giant maples in the back yard. I have panic attacks that a storm would bring one down on my house or the neighbors hoise

I was doing Benadryl at your recommendation before my appointment, it helped a lot. Now with the combo punch I’ve on now i don’t need to, which is nice since Benadryl stopped being effective in the middle of the night.

I took my wife to Sedona & the Grand Canyon for our anniversary last year. Went to the Grand Canyon the first day, took a long hike, it was super windy and she was super allergic to whatever was in the air. She must’ve gone through two boxes of Kleenex that trip. Good times!

taint no fun. Mullberry has been crazy high lately, could be that. Could also be tumbleweed.

I took Claritin one time and it made me feel so weird that I really have no desire to try it again. I make do with Zyrtec.

Interesting - my wife had the same reaction at Sedona/Grand Canyon, we were thinking it was the pines, (we really don’t have pines where we are...)

I try not to think about it.

Kinja'd!!!

I’d rather I come towards my house, because then I can get a new garage and new cars. My house would certainly get damaged, but not utterly destroyed like my neighbor’s house would be if it went that way.

Such a short list, I envy you.

Out of the list of things they tested my blood against (I know I’m more allergic to UT, this is just a PNW-specific quick/basic allergy test):

Box Elder Tree

Cat Dander

Cockroach

D. Pteronyssinus mite

Dog Dander*

Grey Alder Tree**

Oak Tree*

Pigweed

Russian Thistle

Silver Birch Tree*

Timothy Grass***

Walnut Tree

Western Ragweed*

* Ridiculously allergic
** Insanely beyond ridiculously allergic
*** Potentially deadly

I get an annual corticosteroid booster shot so I can simply breathe, still have to take some antihistamines to not suffer.

My MIL went in for allergy shots for years and it seemed to help her, but she wasn’t anywhere near this bad.

I’d cry if I was allergic to mulberry - I love eating their berries when I find them.

Reasons I’m happy I learned from a doctor years ago that a single booster shot of triamcinolone acetonide in the spring almost completely clears my allergies so all I need is periodic oral antihistamines for specific situations (like working outside)...
