Sure, but it costs more than I’m willing to pay. They do cruisers well, but they need more than just cruisers in their line-up.

A highly polished turd. I mean Im sure its a very nice cruiser truthfully but its not hard to excel in making something beautiful if thats all you focus on, even if that thing isn’t a very good “actual” thing to start with.

Never cared for baggers, stripped down bare bones bikes like the Street Bob/Wide Glide/some Sportsters are much more my style.

they dug their own hole being pigeonholed to one thing. They let their buyers dictate to them to do that one thing...now that one thing isn’t what modern motorcyclists want. They also thought that the 90s-00s expendable income from baby boomers was sustainable. But it is all gone as now, as is the whole chopper craze, and HD doubled down on that one thing even more. Now they are struggling, deservedly.
They charge too much money for old tech and chrome bits. Part of their routine maintenance is tightening loose bolts...nothing should shake like that. That they do it on purpose makes it even worse. I test rode a brand new XR1200 in 2009 and it was awful. Sitting at a red light seeing 3 of them due to all that nonsense. I had a V-Twin Suzuki and it was the better machine that didn’t idle like it’s missing parts. The same money can buy better machines from every other manufacturer.
I can’t help but think that all those years of HD guys poo pooing everything that isn’t HD are part of the current struggle. Who wants to ride with those kinds of people. Riding is a universal fraternity in my opinion...the majority of them don’t wave at anything but other HD’s. So between them and the price of admission, I don’t think there is much reason to consider one.

From what I’ve heard, when Harley tried to sell people smoother running engines, the diehard Harley crowd whined that it was blasphemous to not have it vibrate a ridiculous amount. So they un-refined it to keep the guys with Harley tattoos happy.

Porsche brought out liquid cooled engines and an SUV....AND a sedan. Sure, Porsche enthusiasts were loud and obnoxious about it...Porsche doesn’t seem to be doing too poorly now though.
Sometimes you need to see the forest through the trees...HD did not. They had the means to do so as well...and wasted what Buell could have done for them.
Also, they are dealing with Indian...who is surely giving HD buyers pause and gaining buyers without that need to please other HD riders.

Not to jump on the HD hate bandwagon but they dont know how to price and present options for the next cruiser croud and I foresee them having a Buick-esque Renaissance to try and renew their image.

LOL sure it is. I ride alone the vast majority of the time because I can’t fucking stand most other motorcyclists. I had a minor incident with a cager a couple of years ago (he blindly jumped into my lane and my knee met his door.) later that night I was walking into a restaurant and near the door a few guys were getting ready to saddle up on their sportbikes. I gave them a friendly “be safe out there, I just got clipped this morning” to them. Of course, the first thing these 19 year old dickheads said in response was “what do you ride?” When I said a Harley, the utterly disgusted sneer on these little pricks’ faces said everything. Fuck ‘em.
