This is what passes for a Mitsubishi showroom nowadays. A booth at a mall.

My how they have fallen.

10/10 would test drive in the mall

Mitsu can just go ahead and die imho. They had the recipe for greatness yet tossed it in the trash and serve us the automotive equivalent of cold McNuggets instead.

That upside down decel is a perfect visual metaphor for what that company is these days.

A deep fried stick of butter is still less calories than Cinnabon.

“The new Oldsmobiles are in early this year.”
Don’t even have to click it (was going to post it myself). All props to the French Connection and Bullitt , but Blues Brothers has some of the best car chases in the history of film.
“This is definitely Lower Wacker Drive...”
![]() 05/15/2018 at 16:14 |

Wait: there’s a car showroom here, too:

Retail apocalypse...
![]() 05/15/2018 at 16:19 |

And Mitsu is headed for the same fate as Oldsmobile, too...
![]() 05/15/2018 at 16:20 |

Yeah, my first thought when I saw the OP was of that scene. The French Connection chase scene is my all time favorite, but yeah, the Blues Brothers is great.

Lousy movie, though. Dan Ackroyd is one of the all time worst actors except maybe for Chevy Chase.

I was so hoping somebody would post this!
![]() 05/15/2018 at 16:29 |

I disagree. For what it is, a musical, it’s fantastic. And Ackroyd was being Ackroyd, which he does quite well.

Remember when they used to make TVs?

I would totally drive a mirage in a shopping mall. Hell, I’d buy an abandoned mall and turn it into a race track for mirages and start a one make racing series. I’d keep the tile for sure. More slides and door banging.
![]() 05/15/2018 at 16:32 |
|
Don’t forget to keep the stairs and escalators too!!
![]() 05/15/2018 at 16:32 |

It had to be done.
![]() 05/15/2018 at 16:33 |

DUDE!!! That would be amazeballs!
![]() 05/15/2018 at 16:33 |

Then I cede you the point.

Eh, everybody’s got their own opinion.

I used to have a giant rear projection unit

Can’t believe I’m saying this since I’m normally the first person to roll my eyes when someone says “I hate/have never liked all cars from X company”, but I’m actually getting impatient for Mitsubishi to just pull out of the US market entirely. They and Chrysler have served their purpose and are now outstaying their welcome.

Apparently more recently than I thought:

I feel like I had a Diamondtron monitor at somepoint, but can’t remember where. Maybe at a lab in college.

I mean mall space is cheap right? And it’s not like Mitsubishi needs much space to show off its lineup.
![]() 05/15/2018 at 16:56 |
|
They used to make an effort to market here, and they had some good products. WTF?
![]() 05/15/2018 at 16:56 |

Bought my buddy a DVD player to match his Mitsu TV back in the mid-90s. Good times.
![]() 05/15/2018 at 17:28 |

So did we. We also had a Mitsubishi 36" tube TV. That thing was ungodly heavy!

This might be the longest death rattle from any brand I’ve ever seen. Suzuki, Isuzu, Saturn, they just stopped.
Mitsubishi is like the Knight from Monty Python, it’s just a flesh wound, I still got some fight left in me!
![]() 05/15/2018 at 17:35 |

ours was one of these
![]() 05/15/2018 at 18:06 |

Ours was a 40" from the early 80's, complete with simulated wood grain.

Very similar to my buddy’s ...
![]() 05/15/2018 at 18:20 |

Different Mitsubishi though.
And there’s another one that makes these:
![]() 05/15/2018 at 18:31 |

Looks like a Simon mall?
Probably figured a makeshift Mitsubishi showroom was better than screening it over in drywall and painting “More Exciting Retail Options Coming Soon!” all over the outside.

That spot used to be an asian hair/nails place

they just want to me more like Orange Julius
![]() 05/15/2018 at 23:03 |

Different company, with the same logic? That’s weird!
![]() 05/15/2018 at 23:04 |
|
Oh yeah, it was a classy joint.
![]() 05/15/2018 at 23:44 |

Yeah, the TVs are from Mitsubishi Electric Corp, cars from Mitsubishi Motors, ships by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, all totally separate independent companies. They do own minority stakes in each other, along with some of the other Mitsubishi companies, like Mitsubishi UFJ, but never close to majority control.

I learned something today.
