It’s bad enough that passengers on a plane at like bigoted assholes, and staff members can’t get their shit together, but busted out glass is becoming way too common.

ETA: I forgot about the complete dipshit passengers.

At least this guy seems like he was fully belted in (if perhaps loosely). Avoided a situation like this:

Incidents are way more common than people think.

Planes hit birds, weather balloons, lose flap parts, lithium powered things catch fire/smoke (phones), aircraft hit each other on the ground, go off the runway, and other interesting failures.

Of course, getting blown out of a window is way less common. Still, I can’t say I’m surprised.

How do you not notice you’re threading 8-32 bolts into a 10-32 hole.

The most fun part is what you never hear about. At altitude, a rapid decompression gives you about 10 seconds until loss of consciousness. That’s why they tell you to do your own mask first. You’re useless to your kids or fellow passengers when you’re passed out.

Also, the first 5 seconds or so are like being in a dense fog as all the moisture in the air instantly condenses because of Boyle’s Law or some other science thing. It’s disorienting to say the least.

Thankfully the flight deck has masks (with backups) mounted right behind their headrests and are trained to grab them instantly.

Just make sure nobody has turned off your oxygen valve or you end up in a Payne Stewart situation (despite the lack of details, the insider aviation community basically agrees that maintenance teams turned the masks off, then the pilots failed to check them as part of their normal jobs)

Cracked windows are way more common than you think. They have multiple layers of glass and if one of them cracks nothing bad really happens, they just land the plane and replace the glass. We’re only hearing about it so much now because of that Southwest accident last month.

This is different though... someone getting actually sucked out a window is definitely NOT common.

Still it’s an improvement on the days of the Luftwaffe...
