If you have a valid plate number, that may work better. I believe they changed the way they charge for the Carfax services and plate carfaxes are free, but you only get so many VIN searches.

Interesting, that’s an early NB1 build date, #2119 out of the factory.

You need to keep an eye out for signs of thrust bearing failure if the car has low miles on it, this is an issue with early NB1s. If it’s got over 100k, then it should be fine. If it’s got less than 80k, then keep this issue in mind.

I doubt it’s a California car but if you see this:
Then it’s a California-spec NB1. That have an additional cat before the mid-pipe, just after the header. They’re known to be fragile and it’s quite common to replace them (if you’re not in CA) with the NB2-spec tubular head to gain power and ditch weight off the nose.

Yeah about that. Checking through the free info I was able to get through Carfax, I found in the service records that it was a high mileage car that miraculously became a low mileage car, then gradually became high mileage once gain. It’s got at least 70k more than advertised on it’s odo now.

Sounds sketchy but it could’ve been a fuck-up by an oil change shop when they entered in the mileage. 70k more than odo? Should be in the clear for thrust-bearing failure if the odo has more than 10k on it!

No, there was two records at one shop, a year apart, one at 140xxx and the second at 150xxx. Then a couple years later at 70xxx, then 80xxx and so on to present day. Called the shop with the high readings to verify, and they had records of the car in the system still, so it wasn’t a Carfax screw up, either.

Hmm, that’s odd, maybe a cluster swap? Does it still have black-faced gauges or does it have later white-faced ones?

Didn’t bother looking. Could’ve been legitimate, but records lost to time. Or it could be a washed title after a wreck, or a roll back. Who knows. Bottom line was that the car has at least 225000 miles on it, and some questions. I’ll be patient and wait for the next one.
