Took the 335xi in for an alignment last week and the tech notified me that the outer tie rods were frozen, even after using a torch. Their quote was $1000. Fuck that noise.
About $200 in replacement inner/outer for both sides, some time on the youtubes and with the Bentley manual, and a beer.
And the big red stain on the garage floor isn’t a crime scene or major power tool catastrophe, just rustoleum.

If the tie rods were truly frozen, then you wouldn’t have been able to steer

They’re probably talking about the lock nut.

Where the inner rod threads into the outer rod was rust fused together so not able to adjust at all. After more time with a torch and large wrenches, the rust was stronger than me so replacement was the only real option.

I have never had a tie rod that won’t turn when it’s red hot

No oxyacetaline in my garage only propane so red hot isn’t really easy. The one they tried at the tireshop looked like they got it pretty hot.

I can’t figure out how the dealer charges so much for brakes, $380! It’s $140 in parts and 30 minutes a wheel.

i asked another local shop why they were charging $200 for a CV axle part when the local NAPA had them in stock for 75, and they yammered on about poor quality, this one is better, you should pay this.

I did my valve cover gaskets this week. 20$ in parts on sale instead of paying BMW hundreds lol
