I doubt I’ll ever try to sell a personal car there again - when I put out feelers 13 years ago, even then the responses were sanity-challenging (and I sold the car without the help of CL).

I have helped a relative sell an unwanted car then, but it was cheap and nothing rare.

I pulled into a gas station earlier this week to fill up my car. The woman on the other side of the pump started pestering me about whether or not I had a rewards card that would get me a $0.30/gallon discount. When she learned that I didn’t, she offered to let me use hers. I declined because it was late, I had to work in the morning, and I just wanted to fuel my car, go home, and get some sleep.

Apparently that didn’t sit right with her because she then announced to everyone else at the gas station that I “didn’t need to save money”. The woman who was with her poked her head around the pump, looked at me, turned around, and then she too addressed everyone else there, “I know why he doesn’t need to save any money. He doesn’t pay for his own gas. Mommy and Daddy pay for everything.”

My parents were the sort who said, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” So I kept my mouth shut, topped off my tank, and got the hell out of there.

TLDR: People are assholes.

About 10 years ago I heard a couple members of the student band yell that to an opposing player at a division I women’s college basketball game while she was shooting free throws. I’m all for hostile home courts for opposing teams, but I always thought that remark was so far over the line that I can’t still can’t believe they said it.

True. All of the knowledge in the universe is at our fingertips. It takes 3 seconds and a little intuition to verify if something is true, yet fake stories spread like wildfire and we use most of our bandwidth to watch YouTube fail videos (Idiocracy: Ouch! My Balls!).

I hate to say it, but all the tech and infrastructure that went into YouTube seems like such a waste considering most of what I watch on it is parody car reviews (RCR), old episodes of Roadkill, some Russian dude smashing things with a hydraulic press, dash cam crash compilations, some dude blending stuff that shouldn’t be blended, and random forwarded cat videos.

If we were all wiped out, some alien species found our planet, and they decided that it was our primary repository of important scientific and cultural information, they’d probably conclude that our extinction was no big loss.
