Everyone expects car enthusiasts like us to be only interested in sports cars and other big, fast or loud cars. But like brown manual diesel wagons, we all know that being a car enthusiast is more than horsepower and sports cars.
What’s the most unusual car genre that you enjoy?
I’ll start:
Mine is Eco trim compact cars
Elantra Eco
Civic HF
Cobalt xfe
I like the trim that isn’t necessarily the cheapest but has been tweaked in as many ways as possible to get better gas mileage. The 1.0T in the Fiesta and Focus is a personal favorite. The idea of holding the engine block in one hand then having it power your car is just as exciting to me as a new McClaren or Porsche engine.

My Crown Vic, but eventually with a 5.0L third-gen Coyote and Mustang six-speed transmission. :P That’s my eventual guilty pleasure.

Full-sized convertibles from the 60s. I love big barges that leak rain on you as you drive.

Poverty spec hatchbacks.
Cloth seats, crank windows, lame stereo, and offered in manual.
I’m partial to the Mazda 2 and Yaris, but a first gen Spark dosent disturb me as much as it should. That being said I wouldn’t touch a fiesta with a 10 foot pole, but that boils down to my irrational hatred of Ford.

Large luxury sedans; Lexus LS are particularly my favorites.

Jaguar anything. I want to wrap myself in them. Even weird ones like the XF diesel.

My wife had a Spark, I loved that thing. Like a go cart with airbags! Right food down for everything!
I’m with you on the poverty spec hatchbacks. Something about a simple, honest car

Minivans.
I bought a Vanagon when I was in college, partially as a surf wagon and partially because I liked the 1980 model my mom drove when I was in high school; she also bought one of the last ones made, a 1990 Carat, and drove it for 12 years before buying an E-class wagon. I thought my mom’s best friend’s 1977 VW bus was pretty cool and was quite happy when my family joined the ranks of VW van owners.
I guess it started with some of Italian taxi prototypes I saw in Road and Track back in the ‘70s. Something about the use of the full length of the body for passengers and cargo appealed to the enginerd in me, even when I was a child.
Later I had a Ford Windstar (don’t hate on me - it was free), and a few years ago I bought this Mazda5 6MT that I plan on keeping forever. I may get other cars, including another Vanagon (probably a Westfalia), but this little Mazda will be with me until I’m too old to drive.

Big, floaty old-man cars, because I have the soul of a 65-year-old bank president. Probably also explains my love of cigars, scotch, and comfy leather chairs.

Guilty pleasure? Big Ford trucks: Raptor, Super Duty, Excursion, Expedition, Navigator, the upcoming Navigator, Bronco, and even the Ranger (especially the Ranger Raptor).
Gimme, gimme, gimme.

I know it would be ridiculous but I really want to see a new Excursion from Ford. They’d probably sell every last one of them too.

The single cab short bed is a personal favorite of mine as well. The muscle truck needs to return!

That was the Cheyenne concept and it was supposed to be a semi luxury, high performance trim. GM even considered producing it. I can’t fathom who decided not to produce it.
Someone did a modern Syclone render too

Quite possibly! I know my brother would buy one with the 6.7L PowerStroke in a heartbeat. I suspect that either gm will have to make HD suburbans and yukon XLs available to consumers again before Ford would offer the Excursion again, or Ford has to take the leap of faith and come out with it. Maybe next year after the Bronco is launched?

Model T......
they weigh ALMOST nothing...... it doesnt take much horsepower to make “nothing” quick. and its a proud moment, to outrun some brand new, high output, cars in a rusty old pile, you cobbled together yourself, for not a whole lot of cash....... 1700 lbs, and 350 hp can run the quarter in 9.9......
just some food for daydreaming......
