I remember the XR4Ti as being a pretty cool car. That bubble was burst today when I saw one for the first time in years- what a piece of dung! Were the 80’s so bad that this passed for a cool car?!

Loved those movies when I was a kid. Watched them as an adult the other day and even hammered it was pretty bad...

Now now, The Last Crusade certainly holds up. Just watched it the other day. The first one is still important, the second one can rot in hell, and the fourth one is somewhat watchable but....Shia la Beef.

I was in tech school some one in my class had one. I thought it was a rad little car. I’d still drive one if I found a clean Turbo for a good price. But awkward 80s designs in general are my guilty pleasure. Like this and the 77-82 Celica.

Yeah the first one’s sins were mostly forgivable... though I’m not sure how he rode a submarine onto that island. Or was that Bond? Or both?

Second was, indeed, garbage.

Third at least seemed to not be taking itself seriously even a little bit, but it asked the audience to take a lot for granted... I just wasn’t super impressed.

The alloys wheels are awful but is that black duct or electrical tape on the B pillars? Just no man, no.

It looks so different to what I grew up with in the U.K.

The submarine was the first one, and no, it’s never been fully explained. However, it is true that diesel-electric subs of that era spent probably 95% of their time on the surface, charging the batteries and getting fresh air to the crew. They also made much better time on the surface.

I think the best part of the third film was the chemistry between Ford and Connery. But I’ve not seen many Connery films that I didn’t enjoy. Except for Zardoz . If you’ve never seen it, you should watch The Hill .

It’s a damned crazy film. It was directed by John Boorman, who was given a big budget and pretty much free rein by the studio because he had just done Deliverance , which was a huge hit. He did not disappoint and, in many ways, it’s more Boorman than Deliverance .

So I did just watch it and it was... so bad it was actually good. I did enjoy myself. It’s very clearly a film that could only be made in the late 60s and early to mid 70s though, even ignoring the special effects.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Deliverance. I’ll put it on the list.

I love movies that act as time capsules, even if they depict a dystopian future. The original Planet of the Apes or Logan’s Run are other examples of this idea. The first time I saw Zardoz was in a midnight showing at a local theater back in the 80s. Let’s just say my mind was suitable altered, but that didn’t help the understanding one bit. But I did fall in love with Charlotte Rampling.

I love those too. I just like watching movies from the 60-70s for that reason. 80s too, but they are (in my mind) not as ‘classic’ just yet. To me, like to many others I guess, the cutoff age is probably about the year I was born.
