Clio Williams sounds like a 70s Motown singer.

Removing the wiper from the rear is one of those tacky mods some youths do to ‘clean the lines of the car’, etc...

Has he had her on a ‘spirited’ drive yet? Or opened up the taps a little to see how she performs?

Maybe so, but unlike me, you currently still have a Clio Williams sitting in your driveway, so my statement still stands. :P

We went for a drive and it is quite violent. Holy crap. The Lane tends keep stuff as they find it to reserve the history of the car but this could be the exception.

Oh, regarding the 1954 Bradshaw.

https://www.lanemotormuseum.org/collection/cars/item/bradshaw-1956

There is some information on it.

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=140&t=946523&i=6100

OAA 438 - the mystery car. It is a prototype car built by Lansing-Bagnall in 1955, powered by a 5hp 2-cylinder transverse engine with a gearbox in the sump, just like the Mini of ‘59. It had sliding doors for entry/egress. They only built one as far as I know.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

It was designed by Granville Bradshaw, famous for his ABC cars of the ‘20s. And Lansing-Bagnall (known for making fork lifts) were based in Basingstoke, Hants..

I’ll send this over to the people at the museum. Not sure if the info just got missed on the website or if the car hasn’t been on display in order to get it.

It took some looking up, it just happened where was a couple of pictures and reference to the car with the licence plate clearly in view.

I just saw the car and it’s U.K. licence plate and had to know something about it.

The fact it was made by a British guy who was a great inventor that not much came of it and the car business went under, he came up with that car with Lansing-Bagnall, a company started in the U.K. by an American who didn’t do all that well in the U.S.

It’s amazing how things go round and that the inventor also worked at ABC of which there are other ABC cars at The Lanes and most likely will have reference to Granville Bradshaw, not knowing the link between the cars but also the significance of a one off prototype just sat there, unknown.

Didn’t they do forklifts?

(Googles)

Indeed they did, the founder went broke and it was bought out by somebody else. They’re now part of Linde.

Ye’. It’s a weird one. Granville Bradshaw was an inventor and engineer accredited with aero, marine and auto engines early in the 20th century. He made his money on making gambling machines but lost it on further investments. He’s been called ‘a flawed genius’, in that he was inventing and creating things before the engineering and metals were there to make them hold up. How he came to work for a fork lift company, then make a car prototype I don’t know but there is a book on him which I’m tempted to buy to find out.

Well technically it’s not supposed to be here but Manufacturer plates make it the wild west. Still not sure how the Lane got those plates though.

I have! The motor is an absolute gem. Power everywhere, rev happy, it sounds nice, it’s excellent. It handles really nice overall, the steering is good, the brakes are good, and it tries it’s damnedest to tripod on off ramps. However, I think I prefer the way the 205 gti drives. It feels so much more connected. It’s slower, yes, but the undampened manual steering is incredible for road feel and you really get a sense of “loading the car up” when you corner, the brakes are not the best for stopping, but you feel what the car is doing through them, the gearbox is telepathic. I don’t know, I just seem to prefer the 205 for driving experience.
