This joke is not the oldest internet meme, but it’s up there. Any time fuel prices go up 10% in a month, it comes back.
For those of you playing at home, summer of ‘09 was about a 100% increase in two months.

High altitude octanes, most likely. They’re usually two lower across the board.

Is regular an arm & nine tenths, or arm to the ninth power?

Still less than the 4.25/gal for regular I paid in California five years ago.

94's not that rare around here. Most Essos have 93 and almost all Petro-Canada has 94 around me.
I still stick with 91 though because ethanol.

So if I’m high, it’s ok to put low octane gas in my Turbo car?

from petro canada site, ps i live in norther quebec
Petro-Canada offers four gasoline grades – 87, 89, 91 and 94 octane . Ultra 94™ is Petro-Canada’s 94 octane fuel and is available in select locations in Ontario and Alberta. SuperClean94™ is Petro-Canada’s 94 octane fuel available only in Montreal.

Most good turbos are tuned for peak power at just 91 octane, but at 5,000’ up you can get the same effect from 89. Give or take.
“If you’re in Colorado, you’re probably high” should be the state motto.

I remember that one. People couldn’t trade their SUVs in fast enough.
I had such a short drive, I should have traded someone my economy car straight across for some ridiculous monstrosity. I had such a short commute that the thing could get 5mpg and it wouldn’t have hurt me at all.

Yes, to some extent. Turbo engines make their own lower altitude with boost.

Well if I watch any English tv then yes, and on French Canadian tv, Montreal is the centre.

This was actually on the pump at the gas station I went to earlier.

I remember that year particularly well. I had a 98 grand Cherokee with the 5.9 as my daily/tow vehicle.
93 octane and 16 mpg sucked pretty hardcore. Granted, I still deal with the same figures more or less, but thankfully gas prices haven’t gotten insane.

“get”...as in desire? No one desires E85. there used to be a place in town that did E0 AND 110 pump, but its just a boring sinclair now.

For performance purposes I mean. I picked up about 30-40whp by running an e30 mix. Beats being limited to 91 octane - even if fuel economy suffers a little.
