So this has been happening for a while, and I can’t see to figure it out. This only happens after I’ve started and driven the car twice before in the same day, on the 3rd time this happens.
What you’re seeing in the video is me cruising down that road, when I press the throttle just a little bit more as if i’m about to start going up a hill and trying to maintain speed the RPMS just drop..you can tell the car is miss firing..if i give it just a bit more throttle it will stop, it also stops if i give it less throttle. Everything runs great the first time i fire up the car, and the second time..but after the second time this happens.
This is in a 95 Mustang 5.0, In the last 3000 miles I’ve put on a summit racing Bullet distributor, new TFI Module, and a new coil, new spark plugs, new wires. New throttle body with new TPS. It was doing this before I put these parts on but it was much worst and was happening every time I started the car.
I’m not sure what to try to replace next. Any ideas are welcomed.

I hate to say it, but that new distributor could be a suspect here. Unfortunately, ALL distributor brands are hit-and-miss for this application, and there isn’t a genuine Motorcraft replacement available. But the key component that fails in these distributors is the pickup coil, and Motorcraft seems to be the only brand that makes one that’s the least bit reliable. You can still get Motorcraft pickup coils, but you have to take apart the dizzy to change it.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. Here’s a link to what led me to replace my dizzy last year. I’m still driving it with this cheap one, but who knows how long it’ll last. They way I see it, it’s just a temporary measure until I can rebuild my OE dizzy with a Motorcraft PIP.
But don’t throw parts at it. Test PIP signal first.

Yeah I put the new distributor in because of the exact issue you described, some times it would work some times it wouldn’t.....I also have that old distributor somewhere.....I also have a new one in the garage from
http://performancedistributors.com
, but I’m almost afraid to put that in and have the same issue and be right in the same spot I am now.....That and I can’t read my timing marks....so replacing it will be a pita.

Two things I think it could be... minor vacuum leak or an issue with the EGR (if replacing the distributor does nothing)

Yeah it pisses me off how unreliable a lot of them seem to be... Fortunately the connector is easy to get to. A quick poke with a multimeter and you’ll know if it’s doing its job or not.

Maybe a fuel delivery issue then? Could the pump be in it’s way out? Or clogged filter? Sounds like you have the spark side handled with new parts.
Any codes get stored?

Put a new distributor in this weekend, and the problem seems to be gone. I’ll need to drive it more to be sure but initial testing was very positive. Hopefully this one works for longer, luckily dropping in a new distributor is easy, might have to get the old one rebuild just to have a spare.

Wow, so that Summit dizzy really did crap out after less than 3000 miles, huh?

Yeah,it was the PIP in the summit distributor, the worst part is the new one from Performance Distributors looks the exact same as the one summit sells. I can only hope the extra $100 in cost on the one from Performance Distributors went to product testing before it’s shipped......but the TFI module that shipped with it didn’t work soo......that’s not a good sign. Luckily the old one I have from them still works.

I wonder if the initial PIP output voltage can be taken as a sign of how long a new one might last. I checked the cheapo one that I put in a few months ago immediately after installing it, and it generated only about 7.5 volts out-of-the-box. But that Wells Counterpoint article mentioned that they got 9 volts out of their new (I’m guessing Motorcraft?) PIP. If output voltage decreases with age, then I wonder how mine’s holding up since December. It still works just fine, but I’m curious to see if it’s already starting to get close to that 6.5V threshold...

I’ll try to remember to check mine tonight, the one I replaced only started to show signs of failing when warm, so it might make sense to check them cold and then after they engine has had time to warm up.
