Yesterday I went on a cruise with a friend from back East who happened to be in town. Since he hadn’t been on any of the Malibu roads before, I figured we had to do a grand tour including passing through “The Snake” on Mulholland Highway. When we got up there, in typical Socal fashion a Ford Model T came crawling up the hill and eventually made it to the top. It was piloted by an older gentleman just out for a canyon run while smoking a cigar. This is just one of those things that never ceases to amaze me about living here.

That looks like a ton of fun.
My buddy in Santa Barbara took me up some old stagecoach route in the Santa Ynez mountains and I remember going around a curve so sharp that I had to look out the side window to see where we were headed. That was in a rental Grand Marquis, so it was about like steering a stagecoach...

Haha I have to look out of the side all of the time to see what’s ahead. It has helped me practice for autocross for sure. Always look ahead to see the next, next cone/gate. And in the case of in a canyon, to see the giant rocks that fell in the road or the guy in a model-t blocking the road. I am very glad for the extra little window space (I guess what used to be a “smokers window”) on my Miata. Many times I have used that space to see the road ahead.
