This is what I accomplished today. The one on the left took about 30 minutes to assemble, mostly because I was eating lunch and screwing around while doing it.

The one on the right took almost 2 hours, much of it consumed by hunting for the right tools to overcome defects in the parts provided. Piss poor design and piss poor quality control.

The rear axle would not go through until I filed out one of the holes because they were misaligned. The handle takes 13 (!) screws to assemble, basically because the pieces are warped enough that you need a screw every 3 inches in order to make it fit tight.

I hope my son likes them, but tbh he won’t want to sit still long enough to ride in either probably. He prefers walking / running on his own.

Fisher Price is always shitty. Step 2's stuff seems much better designed...I put together a climber for my toddler today that my wife got for a great price (RIP Toys R Us), and it had a total of 10 screws. Six of those were to hold the two steering wheels on, the other four were big long bois to hold the whole damn thing together. If I had gone to get my drill it would have gone together in five minutes, instead it took me ten.

I’ve put together a lot of kid crap the last two years, and it has all been a breeze up til that FP trike. The handle on the Step 2 car is one piece and took two seconds to put together. And it has a handy release to fold it under, too. And the entire assembled car is a lot sturdier, as well.

The FP handle is 5 pieces with a total of 17 screws for no goddamn reason other than the fact that their manufacturing tolerances suck ass.

Just looked at the water table my wife just bought - Step 2, thank god. He’s going to love that this summer.

Built that same trike, it sucked, so yeah can attest to your experience. The upside is it’s lasted through three boys so far and the youngest likes it a lot.

Yeah, he’ll actually use that thing longer than the blue car, because he can pedal it once the time comes. And now that it’s together, it’s fine, so I’m happy now.

Funny you post this today. I was cleaning the junk from our enclosed front porch and thinking, “What can I get rid of and stop tripping over?” That Step 2 car in red was the first thing I put on the chopping block. It’s a cool piece, but mine have outgrown it.

Want a mint condition Radio flyer inchworm? It’s never been off the porch.

It’s amazing how quickly they outgrow things, isn’t it?

Thanks for the offer - I’ll check with the wife, but tbh, he’s got a ridiculous amount of stuff already. Thanks to both of us and his grandparents mainly...

I talked him into buying the truck for my oldest a couple Christmases ago. He showed up yesterday with the Corvette that he garbage picked for the little one.

It’s pretty freaking rad! Unfortunately the rear gears are jacked up. It won’t go in reverse, and it’s squirrelly going straight. The girls still love it. I’ll have to try and fix it.
