Happy May! It looks like we’ve finally defeated the evils of winter! The snow is gone, the flowers are blooming, and I’m already running my air conditioning in the house. The gap between running the heat and running the AC lasted all of about 2 days. That was fun while it lasted. Oh well. When it comes to weather, I guess the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. Another week of temps in the 80's and 90's and I’ll be begging for snow. I can’t win. Speaking of green grass, I’d just like to use my soapbox for a minute to point out that mowing the lawn is by far the most overrated activity out of all of the household chores. Being really into mowing your lawn is like being really into vacuuming. Truly, there is nothing worse. But enough about my lawn, let’s get on to the Fur Faces!

In case you’re new (in which case, welcome!): Favorites are chosen by one of the Snout Selectors (KrabbyPaddy, mrsfinch, facw, Xyl0c41n3, Chuckles or CBG), entirely on our own whimsy. WHIMSY. However, in the interest of solidarity, we try to select one dog picture and one cat picture (minimum!) each week. Other pets will also, of course, be considered. We love all your rats, bunnies, ferrets and other furry, feathery & finny pals. WE WILL NEVER DISCRIMINATE AGAINST CUTE. As always, we’re happy to dismiss any pictures if you decide you want them taken down at some point.

If you don’t have a pet of your own to feature this week, I highly recommend featuring and linking to any cuties who are available for adoption and looking for a home on any shelter or rescue site. I know I’m not the only one lurking on Petfinder!

In that sharing spirit, if you don’t have a pet but want to participate, drop off your best Internet find of an animal gif or meme or tweet in the comments. The more animal lovers, the merrier:) Speaking of sharing, feel free to share these posts anywhere in the Kinja-verse, because it has been scientifically documented that looking at pictures of cute animals reduces stress.

That has nothing to do with the quality of the fur faces and everything to do with the fact that I stayed up late watching hockey before remembering that it was my turn to host Fur Face Friday. Please don’t take it personally if I didn’t select your beloved animal. I enjoyed seeing all of the submissions. So let’s take a look at just a few of my favorites:

Yay, my smug jerk!! This is us playing the “I’m not touching you, I’m not touching you!” game. He likes to sleep on his back, all asplay. Sometimes I get to touch the belleh, but usually not. Sometimes I just hover my hand like I am *going to* touch, and he gets all sassy about it.

The ladies: Cursive Louise, Wiglet Louise, and Asthma Louise, are a little more than two weeks old and are no longer passive balls of fluff. They are beginning the gangly awkward stage, and are developing as expected. Cursive is eating Tide Pods, Wiglet is sexting, and Asthma is smoking clove cigarettes and sighing a lot.

If they eventually lay with anything like the commitment that they apply to pooping, we’ll be living high on quiche and frittatas just like wealthy folk do.

Unsurprisingly, my children are not outdoorsy. It’s going to be a summer of glamping, I suspect.

First trip outside, they wouldn’t come out of the carrier, and when they did, they huddled against the bars on whichever side I was. Wiglet kept trying to crawl under Asthma, and Cursive did some weird, sad version of a panicky dirt bath, that resembled a seizure. When I moved away from their pen, they stood in the water dish and shivered. After an hour, I took them back inside.

I kind of adore them.

Yeah, I’m not convinced that dog is vicious. I can believe about the cat though.

I’ve never seen an albino squirrel before, that’s neat (though probably a poor defense against predation.

The trick is to go for the flank, then pet the belly with your other hand while the cat is distracted. Not a perfect maneuver, but a good one.

ROOO! I’ve seen this & it hits me in the feels, too. I’ve driven 2 Subaru’s that were at least 10 years old when I bought them and I was STILL able to sell them later. Soooo many good, safe times in snowy New England when I lived there. They run forever. My first new car, currently in my driveway, is one . Go look for facw’s “dog tested” comment :)
