Survived the plunge but died on the slotting? Or did it just weld into the top of the workpiece?

At my last job, this happened on the daily. Also, one time out genius engineer spin a 1/2” end mill way too fast and the whole thing just flew into pieces everywhere.

Lol the doors were closed on the machine when it happened. I knew it was going to go soon. We are reusing end mills that were deemed dull because the corners are chipped. The rest of the endmill is sharp so we run them till they break.

It wasn’t a plunge. There is a hole there for it. Just too dull and the chips built up in the fluting and kablooey.

Whoops. Nobody noticed before it broke that perhaps it was making terrible noises or otherwise needed replaced?

Oh I did. I knew but didn’t stop it. It wasn’t a new end mill to start with. We are re using endmills that were deemed useless a long time ago. So if they break it’s not a big deal. We are actually saving a bunch of money in a way.
