Well that was genuinely surprising

I thought that the i30 N / GTI on a drag strip would be a joke. After all, that’s a situation these cars will never be in. That said, holy hell - VW has some serious work to do.

Perhaps they should’ve compared it to the SEAT Cupra and not the GTi.

They also tested a Stinger and saw it beat a VF commondore with the ls3

With every i30N review I watch I get more and more excited for the Veloster N

Why would anyone use a GTI as a comparison for straight line speed?

Oz doesn’t get Seat at the moment...

True...but you’re unlikely to see these guys test it as it isn’t expected to come to Oz as it’s only slated for LHD. Boo I say!

Oh... Thats a shame, though we don’t get the range topping cupras either... Only the less powerful ones with 260-270 last time I checked.... Europpos get the 290s

It’s not like it was tested against a Mustang, it was tested against a similar configured car and direct competitor. And for most people in most situations, straight line speed and accelerations is the most common scenario in the real world, not some canyon road.

We get it’s sister the estate and it’s cousin, the Skoda Octavia vRS 245 in Europe (in lift back and estate) too.

The Golf has never been the enthusiast pick. Not after the mk2 at least. It’s a competent hot hatch that’s great to live with every day (ignoring the reliability of certain generations). It is not and has never been the most exciting, the most sporty or the best bang for you buck.

Here, the Hyundai is more fun to drive but the interior and exterior let it down for a day to day daily driver. Neither the Golf nor the I30 wouldn’t be my pick in this segment, but both have their place.

Also, drag strip acceleration? Who cares?

If it’s anything like the US Elantra, the interior looks quite nice, but feels ultra shitty. Still, this interests me.

No one cares about drag strip performance, it’s just interesting that it’s that much faster than a GTI.
