He is not happy but what do u expect? What was unexpected is they had to work on both side. There is a one way valve between your kidney and bladder and his was not closing which allowed urine to backflow. That is bad. It was very odd that it never showed that both sides were defective on any tests. From here out he should be fine once he recovered. Sounds like 2 nights here. You guys have been great with all your messages. Thanks!!!

Sounds like the same surgery I had as a kid. My 4 year old is on year long antibiotics to avoid this surgery. So far so good. Glad to catch it now though. I have a friend on his 3rd kidney because of this not being caught in time.

My kidney surgery had its “oh shit” moment too. It reminds us that technology is great, but who knows what you’ll really find until you get in there.

I’m so glad he’s okay. Kids bounce back incredibly well. Just keep him distracted.

bummer. The good news is that it’s a high success rate procedure with low risk of recurrence and short recovery time. he’ll be feeling great in a week or so.

Glad everything worked out well! When my son was about 3 he had to have hernia surgery and it was quite possibly the worst experience of my life. Having no control and not being able to comfort your kid is tough. Speedy recovery!

Hopefully, they were on schedule and you and your wife weren’t waiting forever in agony.

I felt really bad for my mom last year; I was in surgery for nine hours with my hip and she was the last one in the waiting area. I think it would have been nice if someone had routinely updated her since it took twice as long as they planned.
