On Saturday some of us Europpos met in Augsburg to visit the Mazda museum. At about 10am in the morning it was time for me to hit the road southbound, luckily the A7 as well as the A8 weren’t too busy. To my positive surprise because Tuesday’s a holiday in Germany so a lot of people take the Monday and Friday off and head south on the weekend. But to come back to topic, I arrived a bit too early so I was able to grab a snack from the nearby Lidl. About ten minutes before the set time for the meet I parked the Golf Plus in front of the museum because my stupid self didn’t see the entrace with parking right there. One particular MX5 with Belgian plates caught my attention as I approached the entrance of the museum: a silver-ish white Miata covered with dead bugs. Out with a W’s recently bought Miata! Two spots next to it there was a white 205 cabriolet with a lot of patina parked. Hm, what certain (European) Oppo has a thing for 205s? That must be Duurtlang’s. About ten minutes later two guys walk past by and it turned out to be Out with a W and Duurtlang. We greeted and chatted a bit and it turns out the 205 isn’t owned by said Oppo. MultiplaOrgasms and a mate of his joined with a small delay but they were having the longest way to Augsburg.
But enough of that, I know you’re here for the photos.
The museum itself is in a pretty cool location, an old tram depot located near downtown. It may not be the biggest automotive related museum but I’m really thankful for such dedication by Mazda Frey. They’re the ones behind the museum and one of the first importers of Mazda in Germany.
After the museum Out with a W and Duurtlang suggested to head further south into northern Austria around Leermos and Reutte as both planned on staying somewhere there over night. MultiplaOrgasms, his mate and me spontaneously said yes. And we (I’m speaking for the others without them knowing but I hope they agree) definitely didn’t regret going. I followed the Miata to the first meeting point in Unterammergau because the 406 Coupe and Maxima where parked next ro each other somewhere. To my surprise the Golf Plus was almost able to keep up with the Miata. At least on the Autobahn. 1 1/2 hours later we arrived at a Lidl in Unterammergau and a bit later the 406 Coupe made it but no burgundy Maxima in sight. MultiplaOrgasms missed the meeting point and waited somewhere else for us, he ran out of fuel haha. We took a short brake and hit the road after we lost Duurtlang who just wanted to get LPG gas. Now came the fun part.
Once again I followed the Miata which lead the way through some awesome driving roads. Too bad I was stuck behind a lame Audi A3 and lost sight of the Miata. Down at Plansee the 406 and Maxima where waiting - thankfully. Uphill the Golf Plus was not really able to keep up with the others though it was the most fun I had with the car. Slow car fast really is true after all! At around 7pm it was time for me to head back home to Würzburg so I called it a day, filled the car up (gas is 10c cheaper a liter in Austria) and parted ways.

I like the RX3/4/5-Cosmo/R100/RePu. All of those were sold in NA for at least a short period, and are unicorns today, with some decent values. I’ll have to remember this the next time I am in Germany.

You should. Augsburg is a great city and the museum, although compact, is worth a visit. I believe we only paid €4 for entry.

It was a great museum and a fun little trip. I didn’t take as many pictures as you did, but I did take this one.
“230,000 km on the 1st engine!” And using that in an ad! The times surely changed since then, the Peugeot that took me to the museum and through the Alps is at 328k, it’s not exceptionally high mileage at all for the car/engine, it’s ready for a lot more and certainly is on its first engine.

Nice, maybe next time. I was actually in the neighborhood in November, going from Munich to Stuttgart, but didn’t even know/think about this.

Great way to spend a Saturday.
Except for minor cosmetical things your Italian and French car is in great shape. It sure showed on the twisty roads.

Thanks! It’s a rather small museum but It’s definitely worth visiting if you’re around Munich or Stuttgart.
Couldn’t find any information in the seats but that’s the 2010 Mazda MX5 which was built for the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
