How long have they been on? My aluminum ones haven’t given me any trouble. Yet.

At least a year.

You need to put some anti seize or dielectric grease on the threads. I ruined two tpms sensors on a set of winter wheels cause I didn’t yank those bastards off right when I bought the set used. They make some of those with plastic inserts that give the same look but no seizing hassles.

Yup. Galvanic corrosion’s a bitch.

Ding ding ding, we have a winner! And they’re free 99 normally at the tire shops. That’s all I use anymore.

Whatever floats your boat, but... don’t ya think the main takeaway here is to check tire pressures more often?

They make brass caps too.

That’s usually why the factory “pretty” valve covers are made out of plastic. Usually chromed plastic.

However, as mentioned, using some sort of grease or anti-seize should work if you have the aluminum ones.

I would however avoid the stainless steel ones, they weigh quite a bit, probably enough to throw off the balance unless you have them balance your tires with them on so they take their weight into account.

I had to do the same thing over the winter just to check my tire pressure after a massive temperature drop.

Ended up creating a slow leak at the valve stem that I need to replace before the winters go back on next year.

Mrs McMike had a TPMS light a few years ago, so I removed all the caps, turned on the compressor, and topped them off. I left them all on the sunroof, and she drove off the next day and lost them all. I didn’t have any spares, so I told her I would get some more. Two days later, she ordered some from amazon since I had forgotten. They were these.

A blue set, a red set, and these. (sigh) I thought they were ugly, but whatever... it was her car....

A year later, I needed one on my winter wheels, and decided to use the silver set.

This winter, I needed to add some air to one of my winters, and found it was seized. Then I discovered they were ALL seized. Ran to her car and found THEY were all seized. (sigh) I cut the one off I needed this winter, and finally did the other three yesterday.

Has it really been two years since those caps were on her stems? That means She hasn’t had any tire problems since (checks tag) a year and a half!

Now that I think about it, I had them all off when I swapped tires out in Nov. They had only been on for two months.

Damn, that didn’t take long at all.

I’ve heard this is a common issue, with the difference in metals between the cap and the stem itself.

even knowing that I went ahead and got some blinging red ones for my last civic. they were on for 2+ years with no issue.

not worth the $10 for looks really though. I’d go boring black plastic ones any day and buy a tasty sandwich with the $10 saved.

Anything but the stupid green plastic ones that costco puts on to advertise the non-air fill they do! I’d say the nitrogen fill they do, except they dont actually have the ability to remove all the air, so it’s really just a messy mix of air and nitrogen top off.
