The premise is this: A group of Oppos rent a garage with multiple lifts out for the day, and people in the Oppo group bring their cars to wrench on. A social wrenching event, if you will.
Would that even work?

If they can drag their non-running projects out to the destination, then sounds like it’ll work. Would have to be like a week staying wherever though, one day seems too short. Like one great big vacation with Oppos.

Oh god, with all the crap the Camaro needs, It’d be a lot longer than a damned day for me.

If it’s going to be a week, it’ll have to be a dedicated garage that has the space. Stew’s Self Service wouldn’t cut it. :P

Insurance is going to be the biggest obstacle though.

That’s why I was thinking that a Wrench Meet should be a one-day affair, and not multiple days. It would be easier to just rent out a self-service garage weeks in advance.

it runs into problems when there are unforeseen troubles. things like broken bolts/parts, and parts that are SUPPOSED to fit, but dont, getting the wrong parts, and not finding out until you already have everything apart. everyday stuff really, but things that would be downright inconvenient if you only have 1, or 2 days TOPS to solve them......
i can hear the screams now...... “it was running WHEN i brought it!!!, i NEED this for my drive to work in the morning”........

Yeah, a dedicated garage. Something like that for sure.

A meet, however, means you have more hands available to help solve the problem. It doesn’t hurt if there’s a junkyard or two nearby that might have donor parts. :P

support groups are great, dont misunderstand me......but tools logistics can make things hairy. you get into situations where you are saying “ if i had my arc-welder here, or if i had my cutting torch here, we could do something”......
support groups are great. i belong to several. but wrenching bros, are a bit easier to find, and its a lot easier to stay on task when there are just the 1 or 2 extra guys there, and things just dont disintegrate into a giant BSing session......
you would have to organize a lot of simple jobs that you COULD let other guys do, and not be sad if the quality of work was not the highest level....... and have enough work to keep a bunch of guys busy on, but not be sad/stuck if only half the job got done before the session got over...... wrenching sessions are and easy way to make a bigger mess, or more only half started jobs for yourself than you had before, wrenching sessions are great for disassembly, but you gotta pick your helpers carefully when its time to do work you care about........
being a wrenching bro is a big responsibility, to getting it right the first time, and not making a scratched up, filthy, broken mess of a guys pride and joy.........
its a great feeling when you get it right.......

I’m not sure it would work great, but I’m generally down to wrench.
I used to race R/C cars. The camaraderie is unique in the pits, where sometimes you just help people out or give them a part. It’s like this, only on a tiny scale. We just collectively build each other up.
I really miss racing. It’s the biggest thing I miss living here.

I used to race R/C cars myself growing up. Very tempted to buy a 1/10 scale 4WD buggy and hit up the dirt track in northern Marysville near the Fred Meyer.

I saw that the track was there, but it’s a pretty long drive for me and my off-road cars are indoor queens (nearest indoor is in Tacoma). I have only done a few outdoor tracks with some of them and they get so filthy that it drives me crazy.
I also thought the Marysville track, being outdoor, was probably more Short Course and/or 1/8th scale.

Nope, I went there on a weekend to watch people practice. It’s the same size as the old Tacoma track. It even has a raised pit road.

But it is outdoor, isn’t it?

Yup. And I kind of like it — more unpredictable than the boring clay tracks we get for indoors.
