Is there any harm in skip shifting a modern manual transmission? Specifically routinely doing a 2-4 shift on an nv3550?

I do it all the time in my E46. Have been for 18 years and 109k miles. As long as you’re not lugging it after upshifting (which isn’t really directly related to skip shifting anyways), I don’t see any issue with it.

I routinely do it on my AX-15. No problems. (Well, my throwout bearing is noisy, but I’m pretty sure they’re unrelated)

No, don’t rush it too hard and it’ll be fine. 5th is probably the least used gear in my WRX, I almost always skip from 4th to 6th and similarly from 6th to 4th. As long as the revs are reasonably well matched there will be no undue wear on the synchros.

It’s fine, just give it a second before grabbing the next gear and the synchros will thank you for it.

I dunno. I frequently to 3-6 upshifts when getting on the freeway and my transmission seems to be OK with it.
Just don’t do what a friend of mine did to my 525i - he was attempting a 5-3 downshift and made it a 5-1 shift instead. Oof.

Should be fine if the revs aren’t too out of whack, I almost never use 5th in my NC, I only use 5th for cruising between 30-34 mph lol it doesn’t happen much.

Shouldn’t be an issue. Sometimes I do 2-4s on my TSX, and occasionally I’ll do a 2-5, 3-6, or even 2-6.

AFAIK, if revs are matched, the only difference between a skip shift and a normal shift is that you’re moving two forks, and thereby two shift collars and moving two syncro sets instead of one set of two that are sort of loosely related to each other. Vague possibility of wearing out one in a pair faster than the other if it’s even set up that way,
but you risk that anyway.
As long as you don’t bump past neutral, there’s no engagement on the “opposite” gear’s syncro, and you’re just spending a bare moment longer in neutral (which might be 5% harder on your clutch). The gears are constant mesh, so you’re not bumping anything into motion that’s not already going.
In short, meh.

Thankfully it only vaporized the remaining clutch material. The car was at 231K on the original clutch, and this dashed my plans to make it to 300K without replacing it. Oh well...

No input, just anecdotes. I used to have to skip second in my E21 until it was warm. In the Raider I couldn’t skip gears even if I wanted to, I need every bit of each gear just to keep up

Once in a while I will shift from 3rd to 5th or downshift from 5th to 3rd in my S10 NV1500 transmission.
I never had any problems other than my truck is so powerless :P
