Since my truck passed 100K miles, I thought it would be a good idea to swap out the pads, rotors, and hubs, as well as replace the coolant and brake fluid. I just tore down one set of brakes and found this:
The outboard pad has about 15-20% wear, and the inboard pad has about 30-35% wear. Here’s the rotor:
Barely any lip worn into it. 106k miles, including a decent amount of towing. I do plenty of city driving (probably 40% city). I would feel like it’s a waste to replace these if the parts weren’t so cheap.

Brakes on modern trucks have gotten impressive. The front brakes on my 2017 F-150 are significantly bigger in every way than the front brakes were on my 2001 GMC 3500 dually.

I love modern brakes. The rear drums on my 2015 Tacoma are great!
Actually, I haven’t had any issues, truck stops just fine. I did have to get my front rotors resurfaced, but they at least did it under warranty.

I’d wager that the towing capacity delta isn’t nearly as big as most people think. I’d just it is only a couple thousand lbs difference in a non-5th wheel configuration.

The pads and rotors on my mini wore out at 35k miles.

That just means you’re driving it as it was intended.

I had a similar situation with the rear drums on my 2006 Silverado. I replaced the front brakes at 45k and again at 90k miles.
I had a shop inspect my drums after 90k miles and they still had lots of life. I finally had them done at 110k miles when I had a leaking brake line.

Yep. I’ve got a 2011 Silverado with 210k on her and my brakes don’t look a whole lot worse than yours. I’ve had new rotors and pads on my shelf for over a year waiting on seeing about 25% pad left. However my rear drums just started squeaking last week.

My FiST’s fronts were done at 32k, and the rears are now about gone at 35K.
