This shit is pretty much why I think stancing your car is the dumbest thing you could possibly do.

I guess you could say that was a slick move.

That happened to me before I un-slammed my old E30. Cracked the oil pan on a heave in the road crossing an intersection.
Halfway through the un-slamming...

Stance is a very broad term.
Vw’s are known for low oil pans, making one that low and static is indeed stupid.

I’d be pissed if someone did that in front of me. Could you imagine the oil getting all over your car if you were behind them?

Jesus if you want to have a car that’s lowered beyond lowered just put the thing on bags. So you can, you know, drive it when it’s not sitting pretty for vignetted pictures of your roof rack.

I’m not even sure what is happening in the video. Cracked diff? Oil pan wouldn’t result in all those silvery chunks would it?

Oh that could be. I mean unless the oil pan was also disintegrating which seems unlikely

Yeah I had to look up whether VWs have cast or stamped oil pans. Apparently some ARE cast.
Also meant to reply to the OP, but kinja kinja’d my brains

As a B5 Passat driver, this was probably the oil pan AND auto tranny. Both sit pretty low, but the former is semi-protected by a heavy-duty plastic shield and sits right under the front axles — not as low as Jetta and Golf, but still pretty low.
The auto tranny is further back and IMO at higher risk of damage from high-centering the car over a big hump. No protection.

I don’t understand why you wouldn’t have a skid plate.

I think those pieces on the road didn’t came from the Passat. I don’t see any movement among the pieces. A detonated gearbox/engine from a moving car should make the pieces roll for while. I think the oil just highlighted some rocks that had fallen out from some other thing (or they separated from the tarmac).

when i had my 2010 sx4 the seal for the oil pressure sensor failed and was pissing oil every where. I only noticed cause there was a mist of oil behind me and all over the rear of my car. I was wondering why cars stayed far, far behind me...

I bet that shield was long-gone on this particular car.

*sigh* typical Imgur post: funny video, no sauce.
This probably isn’t the original source, but it’s all that I could find. At least it has sound: https://pr0gramm.com/new/2523112

Look at what they did to the car. Any further questions? :)

Well yes but some stance people actually do try to not break everything
