I moved out of my rental, so of COURSE I am taking all my LED bulbs with me, and putting back what was there 4 years ago when we moved in.

I’m actually doing the opposite now in the place we just bought. I’ve probably got half the place switched over (after leaving all the LED bulbs at the place we sold). Someone had a fetish with candelabra bulbs, and they didn’t even have the decency to be consistent with the base size the bulbs in the fixtures, so I keep having to dig around the light isle opening boxes at Lowes to find the right ones.

Lol I thought I was going to be a complete dick by doing that when I move out. But I was going to take it one step further and just not replace the bulbs. Sort of. I’ll put back the CFLs I have in the garage, but that’s it.

This makes sense if you have decent LED bulbs, but if you did like I did and bought the cheapest Chinese LED bulbs, then don’t bother. A long time ago, I got into the habit of writing the date of installation on all my bulbs and discovered that they were “burning out” after about a year.

I’m glad to know I’m not the only person to do this. I also temporarily swapped out the shitty mercury thermostats in apartments so I could program heat/cool schedules.

I would have done that if they hadn’t already replaced them right after we moved in.

The place we bought has all kinds of bulbs all over the place. Mostly CFL. Even in dimmable lamps/fans. Because who DOESN’T like a strobe light in their living room?

We had CFLs on dimmer when we first moved into our house - we just never used the dimming, and it worked fine.

Until late one night, my wife wakes me up because the living room lights were on. Like, I swear I saw the lights on downstairs (over a balcony) but they were definitely OFF now. She was sure they were on before. I was lying in bed wondering if I just dreamed about it, when sure enough, they came back on but only for a second or two. We were freaked out because we thought, the only way the lights were turning on and off was someone was in the house. If I had a gun in the house I probably would have grabbed it. Instead I grabbed by heavy maglite flashlight, and went out to investigate. I walked out of the bedroom to where I could just barely start to see the light switches downstairs, and sure enough, the lights came on and went out again by themselves.

I was still nervous going downstairs, but I kind figured out what was happening. The dimmer was *almost* all the way off, but not quite. So I guess the energy was building up slowly, and then was just enough to ignite the CFL but not keep it going; so off it went. The next day I swapped out the dimmer.

Same in the new house. They even had different output and color temperature CFLs in the same housings, which is the kind of thing that will drive me nuts (along with the ceiling in the living room/dining room area having three different shades of white on it).
