On a related note, I now have a big car for the first time since my old Riviera. This time, I have 360 camera view, and I’m telling you it is a blessing in touchy parking situations, especially when I’m worried I’ll scrape my bumper.

I don’t understand it. We left the basic ball on our truck because we were towing all the time, but our other vehicles we took them off. When we got a stopped towing we just tossed them behind the seat. It’s like people around here think that having a skewer on the back of your car will prevent you from being rear ended.

PROTIP: It doesn’t. We had to cut a trip short because wife’s asshole boss ‘forgot’ we took the whole weekend and told her to come in. So we get home, unhitch, and I start unpacking while she takes the truck to work.
She promptly gets rear-ended by a Civic.

Whilst I agree that the hitch really shouldn’t be there... there’s potentially another issue.
Many modern parking areas in Australia are relatively short and narrow compared to what you North American mob might be used to. The number of spaces is often mandated by planning so developers try and jam as many as they can into the smallest space possible in an effort to enhance their margins.
My vehicle is a smidge over 6 metres long and it is not uncommon to see the last foot or so of my tray hanging well over the line into the bay behind me despite the front end being in the proper position.
Old Mate may have actually been ‘properly’ parked but in a space too short for the vehicle.

That’s for sure. I’ve been known to get out, say “that’s not good enough”, and go do it again, sometimes to the annoyance of my passengers. But dammit all, people parking badly have been the cause of me being blocked out of my car more than once, and I’m kind of sensitive about it.

I don’t know how far the front of the space goes out, so I’m not judging there. The only thing I will judge them for from that picture is leaving the hitch in the receiver.
