I like to enter “manual” + “clean title” into Craigslist to see what kind of cheap batshit insanity I can dreg up.
Today’s entry is a 240k Miata that’s being sold within spitting distance from me. What kind of crazy lowball offer should I make? Remember, this includes a hardtop. I’m thinking $900? Looks like it needs a smog too.

Show up with $1000 in your pocket (and an extra $200 in a different pocket, just in case) and buy the car, because this guy doesn’t actually know what he has. Even in rough shape, that factory hard top is worth more than $1200 and you get a free car to do whatever with. The spec miata guys long ago bought up every hard top they could find, so a real OEM top tends tend to sell for $1500-$2000+ when they can be found.

Not surprising. Many older cars can be easily parted out for more than their worth as a whole.

I’d buy that. I had a ‘91, sold the hard top for $900. So buy it for $1000, and boom, free Miata if you sell the hard top.
