Moved house on Saturday, been picking up leftovers since then, including my car.

Kinja'd!!!

You would have thought I would use my RAM, a truck MADE for towing....

Kinja'd!!!

But no. The package I wanted on my truck had to be found across the state, and along with an open 3:55 rear end a hitch-delete are the two things I wish I could have chosen against. Oh well. That’s where the Durango comes in. it HAS a towing package, HD cooling, rear levelling, etc. I could have added a hitch back to the RAM, a bolt on Mopar accessory, but that’s $130 I didn’t want to spend on top of having to already rent a trailer, buy a receiver and ball, etc.

So with a mighty heave-ho, here we go!

Kinja'd!!!

And with a dance of ratchet strapping and wheel chocking, fully up on the trailer and out into daylight FOR THE FIRST TIME IN FOUR YEARS it went.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I got to play Florida Man for a few hours, thanks to the trailer’s license plate

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Thankfully I didn’t have TOO far to go, because I’d have this asshole tailgating me the whole way

Kinja'd!!!

I did have to make a pit-stop on the way to pick up my children, so I parked for a bit in the setting sun to get a few more shots, because why not?

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Finally around 8pm I got her to her new home, and managed to get up and down BOTH driveways without scraping or hitting anything... did I mention I have never towed a car before, and haven’t towed a boat in over 10 years?

Kinja'd!!!

Don’t let the back of the garage fool you, it is NOT that organized after just moving all this crap here on Saturday.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

And after doing some more ratchet strap and wheel chock dance (but in reverse order), we have Touch Down.

Kinja'd!!!

This was actually the WORST part, letting out the ratchet strap enough so that it’d roll backwards into the chocks, but not too far or fast that it would push or roll OVER them.

I took my time, though in retrospect I should have invited a few friends over.

Kinja'd!!!

And it was at this point I realized..... I didn’t leave room for the wife’s Durango. Oops.

Oh well, I’ll move it over some other time. For now, she’s in her new home.

Kinja'd!!!

And I am already piling crap on her.

:/

OH! The Durango. Towed pretty well. Pretty flawless if you ask me. Took it up and down some pretty steep hills with no drama, and aside from a bit of a vibration right at 45mph (and the NOISE) I wouldn’t have known a trailer was back there.

MPG average with the car with a bit of city, and 80% highway (55mph on the nose, in case U-Haul is reading this):

Kinja'd!!!

Just the trailer on the return trip:

Kinja'd!!!

And on the way TO U-Haul without trailer it was averaging 22. Its got the Pentastar V6 running on E15 (88 octane)

Wish me luck, I’ve gotta move 5 of my 7 cars I have at my house across 4 states, and doubt it will be easily done.

People driving the smaller U-haul trucks is terrifying in itself, I can’t imagine how bad that would be.

I do have a friend who owns a car hauler, maybe I can get him to do it for a few bucks

How have you been liking the Durango? Looking to buy an R/T next year. Coming from a minivan with 4 kids. I want to know if I’d be going backwards in terms of usability with regular doors vs. sliding and a bench seat in the middle vs captains chairs.

Congrats on the new garage, it seems much bigger!

The back doors are quite long. I wish we had gotten one without the center console so there’d be a pass through between the middle row:

Kinja'd!!!

Getting into the back row by tilting the seats forward is tough for adults, but the kids manage okay (10 and 12 year olds)

Up front there’s not as MUCH space as you’d think, but it feels more nimble and smaller than it looks. Middle seat space is plentiful. Haven’t been in the third row much to offer an opinion.

Its certainly wider... I’ll miss the depth of the old one though. And the windows.

You’ll see my own moving of the Mini in a couple of weeks, and you will cry for me
