Alright, Mitsubishi. We get it. You hate everybody in America, which is why you’re taking your most cherished performance nameplates from the past two decades and tacking it onto a crossover. The only non-crossover vehicle you sell is a Mirage, which is bottom-of-the-barrel transport for people who want to buy new but can’t afford much.
Who in the hell is in your marketing department? Why are you doing this? Why can’t you use any of the other names for your awful, bloated excuses of automotive misery?
Hot take: Mitsubishi should pull out like Suzuki already did.

Im having a hard time seeing how Mitsubishi can pull itself outta the hole its gotten itself into in this market. Maybe 10 years ago they could have pulled a Hyundai/Kia and go for affordable style or they could have leveraged there commercial expertise and gone BEV, but I think its too late for either.

Honestly, I don’t blame them. American’s buy two things in droves: Crossovers and Nostalgia. You know what they don’t buy? pseudo-sports coupes and Evo X’s.

There are M badges on X5s, every brand is using any popular naming they have to sell crossovers. It’s what people want.
I don’t like crossovers, but I don’t buy new cars so it’s irrelevant. What people will pay for, they will make.

They are done as far as I am concerned. Give it 2-3 years before the doors shut on the remaining dealers.

Your take is lukewarm at best, friend.
I have a soft-spot in my heart for Mitsubishi. I know that they are capable of making some truly great cars. I want to see them flourish.
That said, I recognize that nobody in the US gives a shit about Mitsu. Nobody in the US gives a fuck about the Lancer (except Stef, maybe). Turn it into a crossover? Nobody will care. They might actually sell more of them, which i’m sure is the plan.
Maybe they can ally with Isuzu and Suzuki and come up with an awesome lineup. Until then, I agree with you, they should go away for awhile until they can come back with something unique.

They are almost certainly going to sell a lot more of these than they would a real new Lancer. They are willing to toss that history aside if it it can keep them afloat.
And in any event, even after burning the Eclipse and Lancer names on crossovers, they still have can dust off names like 3000GT, Galant, Starion, among others and could easily start using Evolution or Ralliart as their own name plates if they wanted to. But they can’t do any of that if the company is dead because it ignored the SUV boom.

And that’s the sad thing - market forces mean they’ll probably make millions off them.
