Sorry for the potato camera quality but mobile phone cameras hate the darkness. RIP this LLV.

Crashed or just broken down?

Filed under long-term largely unjustifiable wants.

It lived a long life.

Why do you think it is dead? They transport them to maintenance all the time. It takes some serious damage to be permanently removed from service.

I think there needs to be a spec LLV racing series as they get auctioned off.

Seemed broken down, there was a stench of some sort of leaking fluid that I could not place

There was a fluid leaking out from underneath it, I couldn’t tell which one, but it didn’t smell healthy at all.

I’ve got a full build planned for one at some point.

Those are getting awfully long in the tooth, (our local carrier’s rig has been knocking pretty bad for a week or so...) Don’t they run the 4cyl out of old Chev s-10s?

They’re on their way out unfortunately, just looking older and sadder every time they grumble by. I’ve seen too much of this carnage at such a young age.... Scarred for life

Yeah, they run Iron Dukes AFAIK.

I wish they’d put them up for auction for people to own a piece of American history.

It takes more than a little fluid leak to kill an iron duke. They’d rebuild it, anyhow, because USPS.

I very rarely if ever see them go up for auction, but then again I’ve only been focused on looking in New England (as it would be easiest for me to get them.)
I was told they were going to the scrap heap before anywhere else, though. I must have been lied to.

it is very few and far between that i ever see any that have gone up for auction. i was surprised to find the listing that i did.
i think that they WILL start to show up a bit more often, but you will have to be on your toes to catch one. and you might have to be willing to drive a WAYS to pick one up. i think that one went for $3500 in the not perfect shape it is in.
i would love to get my hands on one for a “project”, but might have to save a few nickels an dimes to afford to pick one up........
