To add to the list of things you never heard of before now, the DFS 194.
It was the predecessor to the Me 163 rocket plane, a thing that notoriously was as likely to destroy itself as its target.

Actually, I
did
know about that little plane. Back in the day, there was a show on Discovery Channel called “Wings.” Then, there came Discovery Wings Channel. There was a show devoted to this airplane. They mixed together two ingredients — b-stoffe and c-stoffe — and off the little plane went in supreme earnest. Some famous German pilot woman took an opportunity to fly one and landed hard and injured her back. They could climb really fast, but once up there, they weren’t very maneuverable and didn’t have any loiter capacity.
