Brother edition. His rusty but trusty 98 Nissan Altima bit the dust after an unfortunate fight with a curb.
It was a dark and stormy night, the glow from his headlights dimly revealing the road ahead. Unable to see in front of him, he slowly drifted to the right...
BAM!
Unbeknownst to him, there was a sharp, four inch tall curb lying in wait, hoping to devour a prey of tires, rims, and suspension bits.
The damage? 2 tires, 2 rims, and 3 control arms. This, along with some other repairs that were already scheduled to be done meant the death of this mostly reliable steed. In likelihood, the scrapper he sold the car to will fix it and sell it to a new owner, while making a tidy profit.
This, however, meant he needed a new (to him) car. Behold, the perfect choice for a college student who loves going out in nature:
It’s a 2005 Honda CR-V SE with 102k miles. We got a screaming deal on it (between $1500-$2000 under KBB private party value), so even with the minor fixes and maintenance needed, it’s still an incredible deal. It’s very clean and well taken care of and we have the full service history. It should be a great car that’ll last for a long while.
The whole gang (grandparent’s Ranger my brother’s been driving while we searched for a replacement, Sasha (my TSX), and Beigemobile 2.0).
Now for the strange correlations it has:
My first car was a 98 Lexus GS300 in black, his was a 98 Nissan Altima in beige.
My second car is an 05 Acura TSX in black, his is an 05 Honda CR-V in beige.
I guess we have our types.

Solid choice. My neighbor’s high school aged kid drives a nearly identical one. His is a lower trim level I reckon, it has more black plastic on it.
Good kid. It’s nice to see a teenage boy not drive like a jackass.

That actually is a really good deal, especially on CR-V’s. I was looking for one for my brother and it seems like most of them are the classic Honda paradox of the only ones for sale are the ones you’d never want to buy.

Did he find the secret parking brake yet?

I found it and he was shown it, unknown if he remembers.

The only way we got such a good deal is that it was being sold by one of my dad’s ex-coworkers, which is actually where we got the Altima too.

Very nice! Sucks about the Altima, but great replacement!

Its days were numbered, we just didn’t realize how small that number was. The rust was a big issue and it’d had a few problems over the past months so we were thinking about selling it and getting something else, but more over the summer than in the middle of the semester.

Well, at least you guys were starting to think about it - that helps ease the pain a bit. But again, a great choice for that replacement.
