what kind of journalistic integrity do you show comparing an NHRA Legal track car to a street car? i dont see you comparing a Camaro GT4 spec rac car to a Mustang GT, so why compare a cobra jet to a demon when both dodge and chevy make ACTUAL competitors to the cobra jet. its like amateur hour up in here.

I love how they think 5.3 coyote is monstrous.

I think Jalopnik writers love trolling us with click bait.

Jalopnik also sometimes publishes some great articles. The Goodyear tires series is very good. The article on the porsche shop in Germany was amazing. It’s not often, but some are very good.

Thank you!

Hell I thought 8 s were slow for a Cobra Jet.

Journalistic integrity?

At least they aren’t a full blown Tesla commercial now, I think.

I see what you’re saying and I would compare it to the COPO Camaro but I will try being the devil’s advocate here and say if anything, it provides a “Drag-focussed Street Car”benchmark (The Demon is barely) and actually reflects well on the Demon. It shows that it is just a second slower in the quarter mile to a track only drag car.

Journalistic integrity involves not disclosing paid sources and so on. You just don’t like the comparison made in an article. The author acknowledges it’s not an apples to apples comparison in the article. This isn’t the thing you’re saying it is.

exactly, and because im grey due to the vengence of alanis my post probably wont show up in the actual article but they make no mention of the drag pak or even the Copo Camaro

Well, what else can be said?

Dedicated drag car is good at dedicated drag things

Doesn’t sound as good.

to me integrity means representing facts to your readers, comparing a street car and a track only car that doesnt even have a vin is. even if they stated that the cobra jet is not street legal it then makes the comparison null and void in my mind. its lazy journalism

right? sometimes they do really good work, even the article yesterday about Global Rally Cross was really good. as are the david tracy adventures and and their actual car reviews. but then you get lazy articles like this and orloves plan to “fix” nascar and its a turn off

You’re comparing apples and footballs.

Yes, there is a second time difference, but when you’re in the single digits that’s a lot. Plus the COPO/CJ/Drag Pak cars are built to fit rules where the Demon is just built for funsies.

But they stated that. They disclosed those facts, and the author even gave the opinion she’d take the slower, street legal car anyway. And it’s opinion piece, past the disclosure of Ford’s press facts. Again, you just don’t like the comparison. That’s ok! You’re entitled to not. You can even think it’s lazy if you want to. But it’s not an integrity issue, especially as the facts were actually stated.

“While the Cobra Jet’s history isn’t really on streets, the Demon comparison was inevitable. They’re hovering around the same ballpark in claimed performance numbers, and they’re both American, V8 drag-racing monsters. One has the famous Coyote engine, and the other, the famous Hemi.”

This is what you’re upset about?

Maybe one less cup of coffee tomorrow morning.

well then why not compare it to the car dodge actually built to compete with the cobra jet? the drag pak challenger? comparing track cars and street cars while inevitable isnt good journalism. i cant wait for the article comparing the new GT500 to the 2019 Copo Camaro that jalopnik will inevitably produce

yeah, they have some gems here and there, but their night and weekend crew seem to be little more than linkbots, and even the main staff far too often phones in a “I had no idea (obscure car) existed and now I need it” fluff.

“it’s a turn off”

Then maybe you just need to casually date Jalopnik and see other people. Only go on the dates that seem worthwhile.

Personally I read 1 in 25 articles on Jalopnik, my time is limited and my interests are narrow.

You’re really wound up about this. She didn’t compare them, she said the comparisons will be inevitable because they have similar power numbers and are both American V8s. In other words, she’s predicting that the two will be compared. Whether or not they will seems like a pretty silly thing to get wound up about. It’s definitely silly to attack a writer as lacking integrity for predicting that two cars will be compared to each other.

Yeah, they’re just churning out as many articles as they can. I try to only read the ones that sound like they make sense or will be entertaining, like the stuff from Torch and Tracy, or Fancy Kristen and Steph. I don’t even bother clicking on anything from some of the authors. Like, how many tech pieces can they do on Tesla? It’s 80% of the articles from Felton. There must be other stuff to report about.

my problem is theres no actual mention of the cars direct competitors and it seems extremely lazy to omit them especially when youre calling yourself a journalist

It’s a pretty light article, that’s for sure. Keep in mind that sometimes journalists are given certain assignments (length/content depth...) which dictates what they write about and how much stuff to put in there. Also, it’s a free car blog.

Tangent time:

What is to stop me from taking the bits of a road legal Mustang that feature a VIN and shoving them into a Cobra Jet to turn it into a car I can register and make road legal? Assuming I add cats, etc.

I guess the fundamental question is what part of the car counts as its core? An appropriate analogy would be firearms, where only the receiver is the firearm and is the part that is numbered and registered. What part of the car is its receiver?

well vin swapping is illegal for one

Kinja'd!!! Axial > Sampsonite24-Earth's Least Likeliest Hero

It’s not VIN-swapping if there’s no VIN to start with. And what we’re talking about here is the equivalent of taking a donor body from, say, a 1966 Corvette and sticking it onto a 1964. It’s ultimately semantics, because I can take the Mustang GT as the base...and then swap on all the Cobra Jet pieces, but it’s just faster to go the other way.
