I was curious ... 8 speed surprisingly doesn’t make that big of a difference.

I don’t think I could get that bad of mileage in the power stroke driving like a jack ass.

You’re trying to move a bigly SUV with a bigly engine. An 8 speed auto won’t save you.

I bought a CPO Outback that had 23000 miles in less than a year. There was one phone number stored in it. Circumstantial evidence, coupled with a couple other things I noticed lead me to believe the vehicle was used do deliver marijuana from CO to the Dakotas.

They got sick of topping off the oil, traded it in. The dealer put an extra 1.5 qt in and sold it to me.

I would have wrongly assumed the ZF 8 spd would have gotten my old Crossfire a lot better mileage. That old merc 5 speed is ... old.

My mom has averaged less than 22 MPG in her ‘14 Impreza EPA rated at 27/35. She also goes through brakes and tires every 20k miles. It’s 100% throttle and 100% brakes with no in between. I’m terrified to be in the car with her. Some people just drive like maniacs.

I can’t even get that low in the ZR-1 even with my foot in it; just too much highway around here, I guess.

Have you tried explaining to her that the throttle and brake pedals are not on/off switches? lol

Lol, she’s pretty set in her ways at this point. I think a talk we had after the last round of tires might have started to get through to her though. Fun side story - her previous car was a stick shift. (As you might expect she went through several clutches and a master cylinder in under 100k.) I was in town driving it for a few days in 2013 and it started slipping on me. She yelled and screamed and blamed me saying I didn’t know what I was doing. (At the time I owned a 5-speed Santa Fe that I had put 50k on without any clutch issues and before that I had one of those oddball manual Lexus ES300's that also had no clutch issues.) We took it to the local transmission shop (who she is *surprise surprise* on a first name basis with the owner of). They pulled it and called back saying it looked like it was worn out rather than the result of a blown shift. It had been replaced just 30k earlier. At this point my dad stepped in and said replace it but no more manual cars for her after this. Before she could burn through another clutch she nerfed it into a telephone pole a few months later when (according to her) the brakes gave up and it was written off. My dad insisted on AWD and a CVT and now she has the Forester. Meanwhile my dad managed to keep his 2010 Camry dent free from when he bought it new until he died earlier this year.

It’s surprisingly easy to put that many miles on a vehicle. But yeah...
