Averaged 53 MPG (calculated) from Pensacola to Ft. Worth. Above Amarillo, high winds and increasing elevation cut it down to about 45. So far the little 3cyl is handling the mountains well, but I’ve definitely noticed a drop in power versus what I’m used to at sea level. Here’s a few pics.

I’ve driven a Ka with the non-turbo version of that engine. I can’t imagine how lifeless it would be at that elevation.

High winds are just another normal day between Clayton and Raton. I don’t know how they deal with it all the time.

Fiestas are good, reliable honest little cars.

The U.S. fixation of oversize pickups to take one person to work that the majority of the time don’t use it’s size is just a waste.

In the spirit of your screen name, I’m enjoying some Vimto. It’s just so refreshing and you never get bored of it.

Yeah, big trucks and SUVs, don’t forget SUVs. The US market is losing the Fiesta and gaining the Ecosport. :|

It takes time to change a mindset.

The last big change was due to a fuel crisis.

Here we use small practical for purpose cars in the most part, if we need something bigger we rent or borrow a van or get a company to do it.

Ford are just in the market to make money so they make and sell cars for the market they are in.

I just wish you guys didn’t have the 25 year law so you could vote with your feet.

A non-turbo 3cyl? Yikes. The American 1.0 produces 123 hp and 148 lb ft of torque (torque figure is in overboost) so it’s more powerful than the 1.6.

Love it haha. I lived in Leeds for the first 10 years of my life and my body was probably 70% lucozade and vimto for the majority of it.

I got out of the car to take the picture near Raton and could barely stand. Felt sorry for the car.

I know, I live in the US. it was, er, entertaining listening to that little thing cope with 70+ mph interstate speeds.

There is Vimto everything these days. I think you’d love the sweets.

Lucozade just doesn’t taste like what it did years ago but I do like a bottle of Lucozade Original from time to time.

I’ve always wanted to build a 91 Civic into something different, I think a 1 liter Ecoboost swap would make it just about perfect. Super high fuel economy, almost double the factory power well double the tourque anyway, and probably less weight.

I haven’t visited since 2012 (left in 2005) but I’ll have to check those out next time!

No. The Fiesta is being discontinued at the end of this year here due to poor sales

It runs perfectly on 87! I’ve yet to try premium to see if there’s any notable different in power/fuel economy

Oh, in terms of 4 door versus 5 door, I’d say in America about 55% are 4 doors / saloons / sedans

I’m lucky we still get the 3 door, as 3 door hatchbacks are getting massacred in Europe. Shame the van version was killed, always had a soft spot for those. Also, as a European, why would people choose saloons over hatchbacks?
