“I mended something”. I am reasonably crap with a soldering iron (as an aussie I CORRECTLY pronounce the L in solder), but made do this time.
It is mere coincidence that I live in Colorado and the time was 4:20...

Fun fact: I reenact the second gif in my head pretty much every time I fix something on a car. Glad I’m not the only one.

There’s only one Aussie I know of in Colorado....Do you do a morning show?

BTW, I was just reading through the comments on the E36. I think the haterade is overstated, plus, they’re forgetting that you’re looking at a $1,500 car. The automatic doesn’t change the fact that the E36 is a great, balanced chassis overall, and a few people seem to miss the fact that the 323 is actually a 2.5 liter I6. That engine isn’t all that powerful, but it is silky smooth, and pretty reliable if you maintain it. I’ve driven mine for 109k miles and the only time it’s stranded me was when the freaking throttle broke.
Good luck with it!

I genuinely appreciate your support and help on this.
I’m honestly going to swap it for a clean Arctic Metallic E90 325i at the end of the summer if I can for weekend roundel duty. This needs to last me through the summer to not have to rack up that many miles on the Passat, not that I do anyway. There’s a sizable E36 enthusiast/owner presence on my campus, so I know I’m not alone here.
Thanks again. I really do appreciate it. I’ll be sure to keep you updated.

That’s sounds like what the morning show host would say if he was trying to throw me off the trail....

some googling reveals you may be suggesting the KYGO morning show host?
ruh roh... I have strong disagreements with both morning shows, and country music :D

Good luck with it - and you’re welcome! If you have a good support group presence, that will help a lot. There are some things that can go wrong that aren’t cheap, but they can be DIY with some knowledge and YouTube videos.
The one thing I’d push for is maintenance records, even if it’s only the last few years. When the water pump was last done and other basics.

I wonder if this is a common issue for those. I’ve seen it once before, we got one was a trade in with about 183,000 miles and it had various interior and electrical defects this was one.

yes. some brief googling of the issue suggested that the small ribbon wire connecting the knob fails frequently on these. So I knew what was the most likely issue before I even got it open
