In short, if you are not a party in the investigation, you have no say over the findings or recommendations published by the NTSB. RIP Tesla.

Given the videos I’ve seen of people replicating the problem, it’s definitely a software issue. This is a major tactical error, and not going to be good, at least from a liability perspective, if not from a regulatory perspective. Good luck defending against a massive lawsuit when the NTSB says it’s all Tesla’s fault.

I find it pretty hard to comprehend that Tesla actually quit, for the reasons you describe, and because at least IMHO, the NTSB does a damn good job of analyzing accidents in far more detail than most people probably realize.

Meanwhile, Tesla wants to release anything that favors them - for marketing purposes, not safety.

NTSB doesn’t have to invite the manufacturer, but they usually do.

It wouldn’t be the first time the NTSB booted a company out of an investigation for trying to save themselves from bad PR.

Ultimately, Tesla will be found at fault as it’s clear their system drove the car into the barrier...However there still may be contributory blame on the driver for doing absolutely nothing to save himself.

From what I’ve seen, they appear to work to bring in any party that *might* be a cause or contributing factor, which is quite appropriate. Gives them access to more data and allows each party to defend itself.

Other, similar organizations around the world seem to have a harder time setting politics aside than the NTSB does - as I know you’re well aware.

They call it autopilot, it must drive itself, right?

I wonder how many similar incidents happen with the slightly autonomous features in other cars.

Just look at the history of Airbus autopilots

Such a dumb name for a feature in a car that already wows the wannabe-hip tech set, and promises a little more than it can deliver.

I feel bad for the tragic incident, but Tesla needs to know its base. This brand and its fans deserve each other.

Yeah, It’s an absolute load of shit when Tesla stated that they released the information in the interest of public safety. It was purely an attempt to put out a PR statement before the NTSB released their findings, nothing more.
