AMA. It’s a 2003 with 171k miles on the clock. Mildly embarrassing to drive since my mom sells Mary Kay and the back window advertises that along with pink lips. Stuffed animal in the window, hair ties and clips, and reading glasses. #swag

She works for Mary Kay and is still cruising around in an old Lexus? These are nice little crossovers, but still.

She does it on the side. But she’s the “drive it till it’s dead”/anti car payment type.

“works for Mary Kay” and “sells Mary Kay” are two different things.

I don’t come from one of those families. We’re not fancy at all, but my sister’s Rogue is the longest they’ve ever kept a car.

Thank you for clarifying. I should’ve understood that selling Mary Kay was a bit different. They normally get pale pink Cadillacs anyways.

My Mazda was the first new car I’ve ever bought. I’ve had it 3.5 years or so. Besides my truck, I usually keep my dd for an average of 4 years. However, all those cars with one exception were 10+ years old and higher mileage. Usually got sold when repairs were more than the car was worth.
I think my mom got this back in 2006-2007

I picked one of these up for the girlfriend not too long ago. She’s in love with it and it’s nice that everything still works on it despite being 15 years old with 200k miles. How are the options and.electrics holding up in your mom’s?

Most things work. Couple years back the blower for the air went out and the thing that controls where the air comes out (floor/vents/etc) needed replacing. Right now the VSC and traction control lights are always on. Doesn’t seem to affect anything so she’s not concerned. Looked online and it’s apparently super common when paired with the CEL. No CEL here though. Found some info on how to fix it online but probably won’t have time. None of the door locks work. You can still manually use them but the switches on the door or remote do basically nothing. Sometimes the front ones work. The telescopic antenna doesn’t go down anymore. Not sure if it’s because the motor/gear died or if she hit something while it was up and bent.
Basically all minor stuff that could be fixed fairly easily. Everything else broken/worn is a result of use/abuse. It’s been hit several times. She got rear ended at a light by someone on their phone. The day she picked it up from the body shop she got rear ended at a light by someone on their phone. The tailgate doesn’t line up 100% original anymore. Her dog broke some stuff jumping and climbing around. Same dog also took a chunk out of the door panel because he saw another dog and got too excited. Stuff like that.

My sister drives a beige 2002, very much like that one.
I can see why they sold so many. I don’t want one, but it’s not bad.

I don’t like driving it. I prefer the dynamics of a car

Oh I agree completely. But I can see why people like them. The same is true of my Volvo wagon. It’s a very nice car, great for the family
. But with an E46 and a Mini in the driveway, it’s hard to love the driving dynamics of the Volvo.
