This is just about the maddest and most confused I’ve ever been watching a crash video. For once, the fact that a car like an AMG GT suffered damage isn’t even close to the top of my list of concerns.

No Safe Harbor Freeway

I’ve watched this a few times and I still can’t understand what’s going on.

Triggered.
My anxiety goes through the roof watching videos like this

If there was a way to figure out the cruiser number... Lord would that be bad for that officer. Also, everyone involved in the accident should sue CHP as one of their officers decided to forgo offering public safety therefor causing extra damage.
Edit: LAPD not CHP

wait was that a COP that just drove by that?@!?@?
![]() 04/11/2018 at 11:37 |

Why didn’t that cop put his lights on and stop? I don’t understand why people stop in the middle of a highway either. I had my car die all the way in the left lane on a 4 lane highway and was able to make it to the right shoulder fine.

Around 0:30 isn’t that a police car of some kind?! Why would they not have done something?
That’s just the tip of the iceberg, though, really.
![]() 04/11/2018 at 11:37 |

I love how at 0:35 cop pulls up behind. goes around and leaves.
Useless! Would have taken oh... 30 seconds to flip lights on. push car off the road. call a tow truck.
EDIT. LOL. Didn’t even look at the title which mentions the exact same spot in the video.
![]() 04/11/2018 at 11:39 |

Wow, fuck that cop. I couldn’t watch after that.
![]() 04/11/2018 at 11:41 |

I love this, people hauling ass without paying attention. Autonomous cars can’t come soon enough.
![]() 04/11/2018 at 11:42 |

Former police car maybe? It’s got a white and black paint job that doesn’t match the CHP vehicles that arrive later, I don’t think I see any markings either. I could be wrong, of course.
eta: nevermind, someone pointed out that it’s LAPD not CHP and I think they’re right.
![]() 04/11/2018 at 11:44 |

is that a friggin cop at ~30 seconds that never turns on lights and just peaces out!?
![]() 04/11/2018 at 11:44 |
|
why the fuck did that first cop just drive around and continue without stopping?
![]() 04/11/2018 at 11:44 |
|
but it has the light bar on top...that taken off before sold into private hands
![]() 04/11/2018 at 11:44 |

WTF, and cop car pulls up behind and just moseys on around? What the actual fuck yo?
![]() 04/11/2018 at 11:52 |
|
What? Ahh! No! Why?
I choose to believe the owner of the stranded Lexus was the one filming it and, honestly, don’t know WTH you’d do in this situation. That said, the police officer that noped out should be [horrific over-the-top punishment, probably involving butt stuff].
![]() 04/11/2018 at 11:54 |

Yeah, the (apparent) cop in the Explorer who pulls up, doesn’t turn on lights, then nonchalantly drives off. That’s some good work, Lou.
GT is just a scrape, the car looks kind of neglected anyway, just patina, and I am sure the owner can afford to toss it and buy a new one (I won’t get started on the plate).
![]() 04/11/2018 at 12:00 |

At least the GT wasn’t being well cared for... dirty, TONS of brake dust on the wheels....
![]() 04/11/2018 at 12:02 |

LAPD and yeah that’s what’s so confusing/angering.
![]() 04/11/2018 at 12:03 |

Yes it is
![]() 04/11/2018 at 12:04 |

That’s fucking stupid! WTF did I just see!
![]() 04/11/2018 at 12:05 |

This is definitely LA isnt it? I am not surprised to see this. This would be a much more interesting shit show if it were raining.
![]() 04/11/2018 at 12:07 |

But even for an LA cop, that’s pretty bad behavior.

no black people to protect and serve so he continued
![]() 04/11/2018 at 12:08 |

Agreed. Cop should lose their job, dept. should be sued.
![]() 04/11/2018 at 12:09 |

I’m sure they were at the end of shift or out of jurisdiction or they had to call 911 first or some other BS.
![]() 04/11/2018 at 12:10 |

A bunch more cars crashed, including an AMG GT getting sideswiped.
![]() 04/11/2018 at 12:31 |
|
This is infuriating, all of it. The car having come to rest in the middle of the road instead of the shoulder, other cars swerving at the last second instead of merging ahead of time, the cop who doesn’t want to get involved... I can’t even.
![]() 04/11/2018 at 12:50 |
|
Doesn’t matter if they’re at the end of their shift, or even out of their jurisdiction, they have an obligation to the public to provide assistance. I hope that whoever crashed after he passed gets the department’s info and sues the living shit out of them.
![]() 04/11/2018 at 12:52 |

My thoughts precisely.
![]() 04/11/2018 at 12:52 |

That’s so typical of any agency that isn’t CHP. Sheriff’s and PD all think they’re above doing anything traffic related. But the ironic part is when they have to do traffic, they don’t know what the fuck to do. They just park cars blocking traffic WITH NO LIGHTS ON and then go stand off to the side. I literally drove around a car one time because there was no officer there directing traffic. No one noticed.
![]() 04/11/2018 at 12:56 |
|
Are we sure its a cop and not a mall security guard or other non law enforcement agency?
![]() 04/11/2018 at 12:57 |
|
I’m pretty sure I know what happened with that LAPD officer: he sees the car disabled in the middle of lanes, but even though he probably has a push bar on the front of his car, he feels he’s beneath doing anything traffic related; that’s for AAA with a gun, aka CHP. So he radios dispatch and tells them to call CHP, they’ve got a disabled motorist in the roadway. And off be goes to be a useless piece of shit.
![]() 04/11/2018 at 12:59 |
|
Look at the side of the car as it enters the shot right at :029 or so. No doubt in my mind, it’s an LAPD cruiser.
![]() 04/11/2018 at 13:01 |

At first I thought, “Oh thank goodness, a cop SUV is there to light up, put out some flares, and save some lives.” And then he moved on. Wow.
![]() 04/11/2018 at 13:40 |
|
WTF IS UP WITH THAT COP?! Are you fucking kidding me?
![]() 04/11/2018 at 13:53 |
|
they have an obligation to the public to provide assistance.
They do not. I wish they did, but law enforcement in the United States does not have a duty to protect. Link to Supreme Court Case. They have a duty to enforce the law. That’s it.
![]() 04/11/2018 at 14:08 |

Yeah, the EMERGENCY 911 part is the most clear indicator. What a useless cop then. It does appear that the rear drivers side wheel of the dumbass in the middle of the road has fallen off of the car so at least it would be REALLY difficult for that guy to move the vehicle out of the road. But in general people who INSIST on not moving their vehicle from traffic after an accident are horrible. Unless the car physically cannot move or you are dead/dying, there is no excuse to leave the damn thing there.
But yeah flashing lights would at least give some warning. And people could stop charging ahead at full speed when there is an obvious incident clogging up the road.
![]() 04/11/2018 at 14:15 |
|
First off, that’s utter horseshit.
But second, one could argue, on that bullshit Constiutional theory that LAPD still failed to enforce the laws. §22500 of the California Vehicle Code states a motorist shall not stop, park, or leave standing their vehicle in the roadway.
The officer had a duty to enforce that section of the vehicle code and correct it, and then cite the motorist.

I’m not saying that I agree with it or like it at all. But the legal system in this country has given enough autonomy to law enforcement that I promise you there’s no way to successfully bring a case against this cop.
Cops ignore criminal and civil infractions on a daily basis.
![]() 04/11/2018 at 15:51 |
|
Oh I know. I hope you don’t think I was snapping at you. I know you were just relaying information.
But ignorance or laziness is not a defense, even for law enforcement.
I really do hope that LAPD gets sued over this. But of course it will just get passed onto the tax payer instead of cutting into their stupidly large salaries and pensions.

This is right after the underpass of Vernon Ave. on the 110 S. I used to work on Vernon. Saw tons of crazy ish in that area.
![]() 04/11/2018 at 16:53 |

Wow, wtf...why did that police car drive off at 0:43?? 0_o
![]() 04/11/2018 at 20:39 |

The cop just goes around. I’d bet he/she didn’t even call it in.
![]() 04/13/2018 at 12:23 |

Isn’t it against the law to stop the car in the middle of the highway?
![]() 04/13/2018 at 12:25 |

Even if the wheels are locked in place and it can’t move - don’t they have a reflective triangle? You’re supposed to put that way back for other drivers have time to move. Or is that just in Europe?
![]() 04/13/2018 at 12:35 |
|
Well, he should have enforced the law that says accident vehicles need to be moved out of traffic lanes. No matter how you spin it, he needed to stop.
That said, when my girlfriend had her crash, we had THREE cops drive right past us while we were waiting for the tow truck. One even made eye contact with me before continuing on his way. Some cops don’t really care about helping people, and that’s kind of scary.

I saw this video on reddit/roadcam a few days ago and had the same question. Apparently LAPD cops can’t operate at all on state highways. only CHP is allowed to do anything there, no matter what. Supposedly the LAPD cop could lose his job for stopping to help there... (I can’t confirm, just repeating what another commenter mentioned)

The priority over here (Belgium) is pull over in a safe spot (hard shoulder), put on a hi-vis jacket, jump over the guard rail and then walk back a couple hundred meters to put the triangle. In no way are you ever supposed to walk back in an active traffic lane to put a triangle.
