I knew I could take it out, but I guess I am perverse.

Any ideas for what to use the 12v connection for? Was thinking voltmeter cause weak alternator.

Yeah door/ignition buzzer and general annoyance in the Miata

HAhaha. That’s brilliant lol. Was thinking about using the 12v connection for something useful, but hmm...

I went away from WiFi and I have little data, so I’ll have to check later. But it is pretty awful in Miatas and pretty useless most of the time. Like it won’t tell me when my ‘dusk lights’ are left on but only when my very obviously on flipped up headlights are on. Also I had a 97 golf and don’t recall it annoying me this much

The beeper in 90s Legacies isn’t too bad or annoying - but if you have any problems with electrical flow, it starts to crackle a bit and cut out. Sometimes it’ll cut out for a good 10 seconds, then weakly beep itself back to life.

The real question is, what are you going to do with it now? Next time you work on a friend’s car, wire it into.. I don’t know, the left blinker?

If you want something that’s annoying, the modern Ford tri-tone beeper that they’ve been using is surprisingly annoying. I think it’s because the final tone lands on one of those black keys on the piano scale and those usually don’t finish right.

Hahaha that’s the best idea I’ve heard in a while. My friend did ask me to teach her how to change her oil... this would take a little planning, but it would be so worth it. Tip of the cap to you sir

Even better: put a tiny toggle switch somewhere you can reach. So you can turn it on and off randomly.

NA. You can see her in the background. It’s funny how much difference the absence of a little annoyance can make. One less anxiety to deal with haha

It sounds awful. I’ve had cars that buzz, god it sucks. You’d think it would cost the same to put in something that sounds better - why wouldn’t they do that?

My ‘90 MR2 doesn’t buzz. it has a beep I think. It’s not disgusting, it’s okay. My 300ZXs had lovely chimes.

04/14/2018 at 10:14

Kinja'd!!!0

Exactly! Why can’t everyone use common sense when doing all things? Pleasant beeps, dings, or chimes are just fine and still get the point across lol. How do you like your mr2? That’s the last year for aw11 in ‘90, right?

Kinja'd!!! Nauraushaun > mXxxxXm24 /O/ /O/
04/14/2018 at 19:34

Kinja'd!!!1

It’s actually an early SW20. I love it to bits I really do. It’s such great fun to drive, even just threading through city streets. Frankly I think it’s unfair that I get to drive a mid engined car every day especially given how cheap it was.

I only wish it had cruise control for longer trips :)

Kinja'd!!!0

Ah so ‘89 was the last year for aw11? But yeah that’s exactly how I feel about my Miata. People can talk shit about small displacement engines, but they are ideal for street driving. I’ve never driven an mr2, but I feel I’d thoroughly enjoy. Seem like such fun cars. Oh and cruise control is very nice to have lol. It’s mechanical in my na8, which is pretty cool

Kinja'd!!!1

Yep I think so. Apparently the SW20s started in 1989 but came to America very late ‘90 as ‘91 models. This explains why, when I bought a shift boot from America, their website doesn’t list a ‘90 MR2 at all!

You might be surprised if you look up the actual production years for some of these cars versus the years they came to America. I’ve had many an American tell me that 300ZX production ceased in ‘96, but they continued in Japan until 2001! Australia had the same thing, only ‘til ‘96, but we can import cars of any year (and we’re RHD) so there are later models on our streets. Maybe Americans are less aware since they still can’t import ‘97+ cars.

They’re tremendous fun, I hope you get a chance one day. Especially moving from the bigger heavier Z. All my Zs had cruise control, kills me that this car doesn’t. We have so many speed cameras here and it makes road trips much easier and safer. As long as you don’t forget to pay attention ;)

Oh that makes sense why I was thinking ‘91 then lol. Didn’t realize you were in Australia. Yeah I have noticed the year discrepancies (not to mention model discrepancies) of what we get here in America vs Japan etc. Some of that from gran turismo lol.

Are you from Australia? You like it there. One of the places I plan to visit when I have the money some day!

Awesome! Glad you like it there! Cool how someone on the opposite side of the world can be into the same cool little cars and such. Someday I will travel there! I vow lol.

Another interest of mine is nature/wildlife. And that’s the main reason I’d love to visit Australia. My dream pet is an Argus monitor, which are native to all parts of Australia (one of the only species that doesn’t only live in 100% humidity). They are so cool.

America is cool if you ignore the government as much as possible, but that’s hard to do lol. Lots of diverse pretty places, good beer/food, some cool people, etc. I don’t really know anything else, so for now it’s home!

NZ tho. Would be awesome to live there from what I hear and see. Is it has hard to get a visa to live there being Australian as it is as an American?

Also you’ve never seen any monitors around you? I guess they stay away from populated places

Kinja'd!!!0

I’m not sure about a visa but I suspect it’s easy. So many people from NZ move to Melbs/Sydney for a bigger life with better opportunities, I suspect they’d be fine with any Aussie heading over.

Never never. I’ve lived in the country too. I’ve seen a few blue-tongued lizards but that’s it. Couple snakes up in Townsville

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah would make sense. No one wants Americans moving in haha... visiting? Yes. Moving in? Hell no.

That’s kind of disappointing to hear about the wildlife lol. Monitors in particular are very smart, solitary animals and I guess I shouldn’t be surprised they wouldn’t be common anywhere near people, especially when there’s the outback and such. I guess I had this vision of Australia in my head where animals are hanging out everywhere, just frolicking around.

Quokkas? Are they around? Those guys are hilarious.

Last time I was up north we were really looking for Casowarys. Big ol fancy rare birds. Saw signs for them, never saw one sadly.

I know places nearby where there are hundreds of ‘roos though. So there’s that. And we have many many km of countryside and bush and whatnot - there probably would be more luck out there.

I think they’re only in Western Australia. Loser state tbh ;)
