It’s only a matter of time before people look back on it, and the likes of Lexus, Honda, Toyota, the Juke, Kona, Cherokee... And forget about how ugly/bold/shocking they might have been when new, and instead look back with nostalgia and think “that is so twenty-teens”.

Kona>Juke> Cherokee. I’ll never get over it. NEVER!

Twenty-tens, you mean.

yep, “flying” roofs, huge fake vents and super styled noses - is this because all the current stylists grew up in the 80's?

There will come the day where we’ll look back and ask why a pony car borrowed styling cues from a pickup truck.

I never liked the modern/retro camaro redesign. Not from the styling mind you, the dimensions. it’s too chubby, the 1st gen doesn’t look good in modern proportions. Reminds me of a chibi-camaro.
looks alright in convertible form though. I think it’s that roofline that is throwing me off.
edit: I missed the FP post. that car looks awful. they got rid of the best parts and kept the worst ones.

Hot take: The last truly great looking camaro was in 1969.

Or vice versa.

If we’re talking about the XJ Cherokee I don’t think anyone ever thought it was ugly or shocking, if we’re talking about the new but pre-facelift Cherokee poor proportions are always going to be poor proportions and don’t gain the timeless quality boxy designs like the XJ and early Hondas, Toyotas and Lexuses have, even if they aren’t in vogue when they’re released.

I like it.

That’s nothing new:
Brand identity has been around for decades.

Yes, the Cherokee of a few years ago. Proportions change over time too. Look at a 60s trunk, vs an 80s trunk, vs the “fastback” everything we get today.

As long as you know what I mean...

Nah the 70.5/71 split bumpers are genuinely good looking cars.

They’re good, don’t get me wrong, but best? I gotta stick to my guns on this one.

I’m going to flatly disagree with you on that one. Proportions and tastes change over time which is why sometimes designs that aren’t loved initially look better down the road and vice versa. Designs that are initially a bit bland often gain a timelessness because they don’t completely fit into any styling trend, but also don’t ever completely not fit either.
Overstyled cars(like the Cherokee and Juke) are shocking to begin with and rarely age very well. That’s not to say they can’t be *cool*. Cool is different from pretty and they can certainly have an oddball appeal. I think the Cherokee fits in better these days with the direction automotive design has gone but it ain’t pretty and isn’t going to be. Little design continuity, clashing lines and too much pointless panel creasing.

But they dulled it and made it wider.
And what the hell did they do to the tail-lights? Bug eyed...

I don’t think so, people still think Edsels and ‘62 Plymouths are ugly.
