I find this Wall Street Journal story very interesting. To me, the piece reads like one of NYT’s many insider stories about the palace intrigue at the White House, only this time, the palace is Amazon HQ. Your thoughts on this? Much, if not most, of what Mr. Trump has tweeted about Amazon is demonstrably inaccurate, if not blatantly false. One thing that is demonstrably
true
: Mr. Bezos is substantially richer than Mr. Trump.

All I know is that one guy is one of the greatest business minds in history and I would not want to face him in anything. I applaud his silence. Engaging the Donald would do nothing but harm to him and his companies.

Bezos runs one of America’s most powerful corporations, and I think Americans would sooner give up guns and free speech than Prime and Whole Foods. Bezos will be fine.

Silence gives a troll one of two things
Satisfaction, or a feeling of unimportance... Both are good for Bezos.
Not that I like him. .

45 is insanely jealous that Bezos is a legit zillionaire, and concerned that his WaPo might repeat what it did to Nixon. The silent treatment is definitely the way to go - pretend twitter twit doesn’t exist.

Yup. If Trump wasn’t POTUS, he’d have nothing to say. Trump is straight-up jealous of Bezos. That’s why Trump never tweeted about Elon Musk’s space man, either. What White House misses the opportunity to praise great American achievements? This one, apparently.

The question is how much Trump Country even uses Amazon. They gave up Keurig, but that’s on a different scale. And all they did then was smash expensive machines that probably hadn’t seen a Keurig-branded K-cup in years.

I am interested in this story because of the media perspective. That WSJ piece was a way lefty-style piece. If you subscribe to the liberal media narrative of things, Bezos has the upper hand in several ways. But I agree: 45 is so jealous he can’t
stand
it. Legitimate businessman and perhaps, even a half-decent bloke. Trump makes Bezos look like a good guy, even though Amazon will probably greatly hasten the demise of human civilization as we know it.

Interesting analogy and a good one. When Amazon is where Sears is now, so will be the rest of human civilization.

The constant inaccuracy of 45's attempts to slander Amazon speaks volumes - he’s really upset that someone is both a legitimate self-made force, and that their empire stands opposed to his(corrupt, incompetent) movement.
Regarding civilization, the ship is probably already sinking anyway, might as well get stuff shipped to you and enjoy it. These are the good old days.

The Trump Base will continue to use Amazon. The rest will see Bezos as victim and martyr and Amazon’s image will be burnished. But you and I, who see eye to eye on many [liberal] things, need to make sure that we acknowledge where and when our views align with the liberal media narrative. Track multiple narratives and subscribe to them, or acknowledge them when they get something right.

I have been saying the same for some time now. People used to be able to buy nearly anything from Sears, while shopping at home. The shopping method and delivery method changed. Amazon set itself up to take advantage of those things.

I don’t think Bezos has to worry about being a martyr - Amazon isn’t going anywhere. It is global, and this deplorable sideshow will be over with, just not soon enough. The base won’t give up cheap goods, “free” delivery, and Prime TV just as they won’t give up the other kind of fire stick nor books full of fantasy. Nor will they give up WM, who one can easily argue has caused even more consequences, but for some reason (we know why), 45 isn’t attacking it.
That specific media isn’t always correct, just more correct than its opponent.

And we need charges that 45 can’t pardon.

I doubt anyone who jumped on this train of grifters has the foresight to realize how bad it will look when this is over. This is simply the worst regime in history, and people will remember it for a long time.
The tweets will say something about fake news, maybe a media slur, perhaps something about HRC or BO.

And how the FBI is out to get him. Or maybe, for once, he’ll keep his mouth shut, but it seems unlikely. The holy grail: the tax returns. When Bill Clinton was deposed for perjury, they turned right around and released the video.

I don’t think Mr. Cohen is going to be sleeping very well. How, how, HOW, did these people think they could be so crooked, march into the White House, and remain unscathed? How? Such arrogance. Such avarice.

Oh yeah, we’ll get the “witch hunt” line too, hell, we have seen it right here from his stubborn devotees, his base believes it. Mouth shut? Never - he’s never faced such accountability before. I’d love to see not just tax returns, but independently audited finances. I want to see the money laundering. 45 whined to Mitt about tax returns, he should be forced to submit his own.
Then we can haul out Jared, the son (and son in law) of a conman, and look at that particular money trail.
Arrogance and incompetence often run hand in hand. We are in the age of spreading information, and where data you thought was deleted still exists. There will be investigations linked to this regime for decades.

don’t buy the hype. Hannity might want you to think the entire trump country ditched their k-cups and machines but it is not like they are going to run out there to replace it with a Mr. Coffee or a Nespresso machine. Plus those dingbats smash machines they bought themselves, which just adds a layer of sheer stupidity. It would be like me going to buy a sack of Chik-fil-a and then set it on fire on video.

WSJ, lefty? Please. It is owned by Murdoch and even before he bought it it has always been a more traditionally “Republican” outlet. They are more economically R than social issue R, they are pro free trade, pro immigration (which brings in physical and human capital) and pro business, anti tax and anti regulation.

Bear in mind, Bezos owns WAPO, and Amazon as separate entities. Amazon did not buy WaPo. Bezos bought it. There is really no point in rebutting 45 because why sink to his level? He is better off silent and let his newspaper do the talking.

That’s why I shared the column because the column itself sounded very lefty and, as such, presents a double standard. When I want dirt on 45's administration, I only pay attention to what WSJ corroborates. The rest is merely entertaining.

Yep, but IMO she is just a distraction now. She couldn’t have done anything to make herself palatable, she is evidence of the weakness of the Dems in general. Just as Bonespurs is evidence of the shit in the GOP. These were seen as their most likable candidates.
Bitter deplorables will whine about HRC and BO until their last days.

it was revealed in Daniels lawsuit that there are other payoffs. For someone whose job was to sweep issues under the rug, the idea of going on national tv and adding fuel is so stupid. To blatantly say “I hide shit” is so monumentally stupid while your client and you are under investigation. Given the stupidity they have shown using public campaign emails for this, I have no doubt there is more that they wish would be have been kept private.

What dumbfounds me is that this coterie of people could do so much crooked and shady, blatantly so, then place themselves in the White House and think that somehow, it wouldn’t be found out. And I wonder how much any of them will be charged with that Trump cannot pardon. And then after Trump? A purge, perhaps, by the GOP? Rats swimming away from a sinking ship?

This link got killed
“What dumbfounds me is that this coterie of people could do so much crooked and shady” birds of a feather.
45 gave an interview in the 90s to bbc and paraphrasing “you can say whatever you want because in a week the papers move on to the next scandal”
He spent 70 years living behind a curtain, with his exposure when and how he wanted. His finances were hidden behind a private company, and his personal life hidden either by payoffs. or friendly media (tabloid with McDougal) or Access Holywood. He never faced scrutany above the gossip tabloid section. even during the first half of the campaign he was treated as a farce and never investigated. I think it is a combo of ego, ignorance, and arrogance, that he could just walk in and keep his dirty laundry hidden.
the way this all goes back to the article is 45 knows he can’t stop the WaPo from covering him, and can’t buy off Bezos and that has his terrified at what else might get uncovered. https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/2016-election/trump-lies/?utm_term=.70da4e02c8f0
