I have had Peroni when it was fresh and untouched by light and therefore actually nice. But why the hell do green beer bottles still exist? Its known by otherworldly aliens and unborn babies still in the womb that green bottles are such a stupid idea. This one tonight was a skunk and on the lable it still had until august..... Brown or clear corona or nothing.

Because the Dutch hate us.

Is this why I’ve always hated Heineken? I tried it a few times about 12 years ago and thought it was vile... Was it the bottle’s fault?

Depends. Heineken isn’t that great of a beer but it’s more bland than bad. If you remember it as a vile taste then you probably had a skunked one.

As a Dutchman I’d argue those that chose Heineken hate themselves. It doesn’t get much blander than that.
Besides, the Swedes tend to have us as well.

i had the pleasure of enjoying heineken at the factory in amsterdam and it was light and crisp and refreshing like a miller lite if it’s 100° and you were just mowing the lawn. but god damn is it bad/bland by the time it gets back to the us. i’m a home brewer and i wouldn’t know where to start to make a beer that lifeless.

Most good US craft beweries are canning now. It’s expensive to get set up, but the finished product is amazing. All the same flavor, far less waste, stackable, packable, and can be taken to places bottles aren’t allowed (beach, concert, pool).
I actually bemoan the rare occasion I have to buy bottled beer anymore. Canning tech has jumped ahead of everything, with the exception of something you want to age.

It’s better for keeping beer good, packaging, the environment, etc. in almost any measure besides maybe public perception cans are better

But in Sweden, there’s no sunlight to pass through green bottles

Green bottles are the best. Of course I don’t drink beer so maybe there is a hidden disadvantage to green? 7up in green glass bottle is awesome though.

Isn’t the idea with the brown or the green to stop most light from getting to the beer? Which suggests that green is probably as good as brown and clear is bullshit (which is why so few beers come in clear).
It also suggests tinnies are superior - which they are in almost every way.
