My building is on lock down. Again. This guy hangs out in our neighborhood is why.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

We had active shooter training a week ago. I skipped it as I’m in a secure facility with armed police at the front desk but it is on a college campus where shit likes to go down so I see the point for it, sort of.

People aren’t getting any less cray cray but they seem to get better weapons and encouragement. And news. And attention.

YouTube is right up the road. This is getting to be a bit much.

That’s crazy. I work in the same building as the United States consulate, so security is as tight as it can be here, but it still remains a threat to us all. We drill too.

Hope you guys remain alright

We had active shooter training last week. I don’t feel in danger from that, but we did have a bomb threat last year. I had to let myself down 5 flights of stairs one step at a time. When I got the bottom, just said screw it and went home.

People at my old law firm’s office in DC kept having to vacate due to bomb threats called into the building. We assumed it was because the Secret Service had a satellite office in the building. As it turns out, it was an employee of the restaurant that also was in the building that was the cause — every time one of its employees wanted the the day off, he’d call in a bomb threat.

I told my coworker last fall that she probably shouldn’t bring her hunting rifle into the office due to the sensitivity of that kind of stuff these days.

I’m in Australia. We have the crazy, we have the angry, we have the meth heads and we have combinations of all three.

We don’t have the guns or the need for active shooter training. It’s quite nice.

But by all means you keep doing what you do...

Ah yes, and I agree with your point, but I’m Australia literally every other thing might kill you. There seems to be no shortage of gruesome and wonderfully random animal attacks and weird bugs with all kinds of toxins. I’m not sure exactly how much safer you are but it’s gotta be more peaceful.

Yeah the risk of deadly bitey things is well overstated.

Australians are more likely to die of the things that kill most people in the developed world (old age, lifestyle diseases, poor choices and outright stupidity) than interactions with the local wildlife.

I jest. I’m a surfer and here in Northern California is where the Great Whites are in the Winter, which is also when there’s surf. Based on public perception I should be dead about 20x over by now.

I have been to beaches closed due to a shark sighting which I’ve taken far less seriously than a building lockdown due to a possible lunatic with a shotgun leaving a manifesto about wanting to go shoot people. I’d rather take my luck with the sharks.

Australians have a shark hysteria issue as well. Mind you...

There is a renowned surf spot not a world away from this area. It’s called Cactus.

Kinja'd!!!

See that channel behind the break? You’d never catch me surfing there! Regardless of how good the wave is...
