Agreed. But, any time a radio station plays THE FUCKING JOKER for the eighth time in a day instead of any given song from Fly Like An Eagle for variety, a kitten dies. That even includes Rock’n Me and Take the Money and Run, with their similarly ridiculous airplay numbers.

Some people call me Maurice - right before I kill them for playing The Joker too much.

Also, would it kill them to play Abracadabra occasionally? Yes, it’s stupid, but that’s not the point.

Like I’m 90% sure nearly every major classic rock station either uses the exact same mix or tries their hardest to do exactly that.

It’s The List, and one must not deviate from The List, unless it is for a regionally established variation on The List, such as when Alabama stations play Sweet Home Alabama eleventy billion times or South Carolina rock stations play Tom Petty’s Breakdown a huge number of times.

The horrible thing is, there are whole audiences conditioned to The List during the past 20-30 years, who will have a shitfit if you dare show any variation. (They will be among the first up against the wall). One of the places I mostly lurk has a guy who’s a DJ enslaved to The List who told a horror story about once daring to play the Yardbirds version of Train Kept a Rollin’. At least one whole day of callins whinging about MUH AEROSMITH.

the twenty-five most played classic rock artists nationwide – such as Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, and the Rolling Stones – make up half of the plays on classic rock stations.

Here’s the top 15, and we know them all. Although I’d contend Don’t Stop Believin’ is played more than Wheel in the Sky.

There is a classic rock station in Atlanta that has a Journey problem it needs to talk to someone about. It needs to get help, seriously. Separate Ways should not be a three-times-daily thing, just... no.

Yeah, and I seriously wish the last couple of The List-fellating stations I listened to played Sweet Emotion that often.
