Welcome to Friday. Got any big plans for the weekend? The Austin Symphony is performing the score for a screening of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, and I’ve got two rehearsals today. We’re doing the third movie (whatever that one is) in July. Fun stuff.

That’s neat. With the exception of my senior year, I was in the “orchestra” for the school musical. (Orchestra is in quotes because we had no strings, but it just feels wrong to call it the band). My senior year I was in the musical. There’s somethi ng special about doing the soundtrack live, especially for a live musical. Give us a longer lead next time so we can plan a trip over to watch. My kids absolutely love H arry P otter.

I have to go to Tekko (anime convention) this weekend. I am not looking forward to it. Monday I am going to a crust punk concert which I am greatly looking forward too.

That all sounds a bit outside my personal frame of reference. Have fun!

The third film will be July 7-8. Start saving your money, because the tix are not cheap. I’d throw some comps your way, but we don’t get them for these shows. There’s also a National Geographic show July 27-28. We will be providing the score for some Nat Geo documentaries, no idea which ones. I hope I can see the screen for that one.
There are other movies next year: Wizard of Oz, Singing in the Rain (I think). I’ll know more once the official ASO schedule is released.

Hope you’ll be playing this as part of the Nat Geo show:
Seems incredibly bizarre that they retired it.

Instantly recognizable. Gave me chills. And written by Elmer Bernstein, one of the greatest American film composers of all time. No wonder it’s so good. If you haven’t ever listened to it, check out Bernstein’s soundtrack for To Kill a Mockingbird. It’s extraordinary.

A bit pricey, but I’d say it’s worth it. Ticket availability is already low in most sections, although they don’t tell us what they really mean by “low”.

The HP movies are being done by the UT Performing Arts Center, and their tickets are some of the priciest in town. Star Wars was done by the Long Center, and I’ve not heard if they will be doing any of the other movies, while other films are being done as Austin Symphony pops concerts (performed in the Long Center). It’s all a bit confusing, but the UT PAC and Long Center both hire the ASO, so it’s not part of our regular contract. The ASO pops shows are the cheapest of the lot, I believe.
