I was just told on the front page I need to put “Extreme Performance Summer” on my ISF.... In a state where it was 75 2 days ago, 30ish this morning, 60 this afternoon, rains more than Seattle, and is supposed to snow on Saturday. Because Pilot Sports A/S 3 apparently are not good enough? He also said my math was wrong, which does not make any sense. because the math was right.

Buy what you think works if you’re sure that your numbers and all of your other homework checks out.
You are the best judge of what you want to get. It’s a matter of corroborating information so you’re absolutely 100% sure that it’s what you want.

When I spent time on the FP, the best way to comment was in response to specific posters who I knew a bit about so I had a better chance of a decent conversation in kind of a subthread. Of course, idiots looking to troll or show their brilliance would still jump in, but it helped.

It’s a really good tire in a state that is quad-polar with it’s weather lol. Even summer tires would be a bit meh, especially since my ISF has even seen mud multiple times this past week and a half lol. I wouldn’t want to get anything less but anything more probably wont work unless I only brought the ISF out on the nicest of weekends. .

Yeah just the sheer size on my tires(245/35/R19 in the front 255 in rear) make my tires expensive to start out with but having 400+ hp and RWD it calls for a little more grip.

Our problem is we don’t experience enough winter, and we don’t experience enough dry summer to justify some PSS. It’s either cold and dry, or hot and rainy. When I have more money I might consider it but then its also another set of rims and finding a set of Lexus BBS wheels is not cheap.

Max performance(not extreme. nobody that is DDing a car should be driving on extremes. they have virtually zero treadwear and lousy wet weather handling) will actually outperform an A/S tire in the wet. Not by very much though.

During summer weather, a P4S might hold up better than an A/S due to the rubber compound compromises you have to make to get low-temp grip in an A/S tire, but it’s not going to be night and day. But you’d be melting through extremes if you are doing that much wear to an A/S. Extremes don’t give AF about how many miles you get out of them, they are basically race tires with deeper tread blocks.
On a side note, my Dad tracks a 7-series and he actually has to use extremes because that’s the only tire that won’t overheat and start shedding tread blocks. That’s about the only time I’d say someone needs extremes. I keep trying to convince him to get a second weekend/track car that won’t eat itself on the track, but he won’t do it.

Rain is definitely not a detractor for summer tires. Rain + cold is but as long as it is warm you can run 200TW summer tires no problem. Those tires will “work” in 30 degree weather too if its dry, its just not great to drive on bricks.

The more I think about it, I kind of wish I put all seasons on my STi. Then I could at least go skiing with the car without having to rent something because it is too cold out. Sure dedicated summers and winters would be better but winter tires are unusable 100% of the time in LA at home. Id have to swap them like every weekend I go skiing rather than twice per year. Plus I already have the Miata as my canyon carver with 200TW summers on it. I still will probably just do the winter/summer on two sets of wheels but I have certainly thought about just compromising to save the hassle.

Stock its 400 hp/450 torques for his year, but he made a trip to the Dinan parts bin, so he’s pushing something closer to 525/580. And he’s running Pilot Sport Cup 2's, I think it’s 275 up front and either 285 or 295 out back.

before I decided goodyear was a truly horrible company that I no longer plan on giving money to, I bought a set of eagle F1 asymmetric all seasons, they’re a high perf. all season. I ran them on my Legacy GT, then when that was totalled, transferred them to my Supra.
They’ve been absolutely good enough (TM) in twisties and whatnot in the summer (especially on public roads), but I also don’t feel bad about driving to say, Las Vegas and back (from a lil north of Minneapolis) on them, and if I get caught in snow in the mountains they’re not ruined.
Point being, if I need super sticky eff you tires, I’ll buy track tires. For 90% of situations on public roads with how I drive, “high performance” all seasons have been good enough, and it gets me deeper into fall and out earlier in the spring while still being able to hustle enough through a turn that I’m not bored.
That said, being in Minnesota I run dedicated winter tires in the winter.

Yep pollen is here for only a short time (soon). Not much dust either, unlike TX or desert areas.
Tree drippings can also be an issue for those without covered parking.

I wish I had some pictures to describe the pollen here right now....
Google came up with this and with no washing its about right. My ISF was 1/2-2/3 of that after about 4 days

I live where it snows a fuck ton. That being said my “summer tires” are still passable A/S tires because I have to drive on gravel roads, wet roads, muddy roads, and the occasional summer snow storm (BFG G-Force Sport Comp2). I still switch out to Blizzaks in the winter. If I had an ISF I would do the same thing I’m doing now, it’s nice having traction on surfaces other than perfect pavement.
