It’s time for the next installment of “A/C Issues With My Ford Fusion”, hooray! On today’s episode, the car has decided to only blow hot air.

Full scenario: The A/C was blowing perfectly cold when I parked it after coming back from my lunch break last Friday. I come out to the car after work, and nothing but hot air. I would assume that would rule out being low on refrigerant. So any idea what else it could possibly be? The blend door was suggested as a possibility, but supposedly I’m should here some noise that I’m not hearing. So idk. Any thoughts OPPO?

Oh, and the car is a 2012 For Fusion SEL.

Does the compressor kick on? Low refrigerant is a possibility, you might have a pinhole in the system. Check the low side pressure.

while not what you’re asking for, if in this process you’re blower motor is going out I have a replacement that I never used in my MKZ. I would love to see it go to use.

Aapparently my Googling sucks. I tried Google first, but got nothing helpful. The first result from yours actually was helpful, lol. Thank you.

You’re welcome. I have absolutely no idea what could be wrong with your a/c, but I figure if you had a problem there are lots of others who have had the same problem. I have used Google to fix everything from my car to my lawn mower to my dryer. I hope you get it squared away—summer’s coming....

Certainly sounds like the blend door or whatever they call it on your model. Can’t imagine you’d lose all AC while the car was parked, and if it did it should just blow cool, not hot. Hot indicates that the air is still blowing over your heater core.

I’ve seen this before where the blend door stops working due to vacuum loss or a broken control cable. Depends what system your car uses. I’d imagine it’s electronic, which would also explain the spontaneous failure. Hopefully you don’t have to take out the dash.

Google/YouTube has proven to be a great resource for fixing almost anything. Clothes washer, dryer, and many auto repairs. This weekend I have to fix the blend door on a ‘02 Explorer that I’m picking up tomorrow to replace the ‘00 Explorer that blew its head gasket. It doesn’t look like that bad of a repair, I hope.

When you turn the a.c. on does the compressor click on? You should be able to here it or notice a dip in idle. Does the compressor click on for defrost?

I had / have a similar issue on my 2010 Grand Marquis.

Something called as HVAC Blend Door Actuator ($70) broke.

The average cost for a Mercury Grand Marquis HVAC Blend Door Actuator Replacement is between $418 and $511. Labor costs are estimated between $352 and $444 while parts are priced between $66 and $67

Dealer quoted me

Dash will have to removed. 8 hrs labor. total cost $ 1000.

Yeah. I always try Google first too. But my sleep deprivation seems to be impairing my Google-fu.

Well it was a hot day, so the air was hot. Today, it’s blowing warm-ish air. About equal with the outside temperature. And from what I can tell, the compressor does not appear to be turning on.

Make sure your compressor is actually turning on. You should clearly notice it while the car is running, resulting in an increased idle any time it is running. If it is not running, then there is your problem. Then your most likely culprit is a relay or something like that. Also want to check to see that the fan is spinning as well. Not sure if you have separate cooling/AC fans and how they work, but the AC most certainly needs a fan as well of some sort. You would need an electrical diagram ideally to figure out all sources of fault to the compressor. Assuming you have power supplied properly, then further troubleshooting is required and likely a bad compressor or connection.

Is your car on or just open window?

Sounds like the compressor clutch to me. Could also be the switch, fuse, relay, or wiring. I’m happy to walk you through diagnosing it if you’d like. Not too hard but you will have to mess around under the hood a bit.

Is your external temp sensor displaying the correct temp?

When mine failed the car thought is was -60 degrees outside so of course the air would not come on. Mine is a 2013 don’t know if their the same?
