My wife’s G37X got hit on Saturday. The car in front of her stopped short, she stopped accordingly and then the older Explorer behind her either hit her of his own accord or got pushed in to her by the bro-truck behind him.
There weren’t any injuries, but her Infiniti had damage to the rear bumper cover/assembly and the trunk lid but the Explorer was crunched. The bro-truck took out the back pretty badly since it was lifted and hit above the bumper shattering the rear window and caving in the hatch. The truck’s driver was the only one sited by the cops.
That means that she’s got a rental.
This should be interesting.
Update : It’s totaled so now we get to try to find a replacement for a 2011 G37X with 45k on it without getting any kind of loan since we’re in the middle of getting a mortgage approval and we were specifically told not to borrow anything. The insurance settlement looks to be in the $17-18k range so it’s close but we might need to spend $5k out of pocket just because some people won’t keep a reasonable following distance.

People stopping short is one of my pet peeves. Glad everyone was okay.

stopped short you say?

That’s exactly what I thought of when she told me the story. That’s my move!

Normally, this is the point where I’d remind you that you owe us an Oppo rental review. But seeing what she got, never mind.

I assumed she’d get some boring intermediate sedan, instead she got...that. I’m looking forward to her reasoning there.

Let’s hope it stays just boring and not frustrating, like every time I got a Jeep.

How long will they pay for a rental while you car shop? It may be possible to keep looking until the mortgage is finalized, and then finance something if you want to. Though no car payment is nice when you have a mortgage.

thats really rough but

doesnt seem like a bad replacement if your wife wanted another g37x

I just saw two interesting cars at our local dealer, a 2009 Audi TT in steel grey and a 2015 Subaru Crosstrek in blue both in the $15k range. The Lexus IS was 24k. I would probably go for the Crosstrek.

Well, you should be able to get another G37 within that budget.

I failed to mention her basic requirements, no white, no black, no silver, no gray. That makes it tougher.

If we can find one in an actual color. She doesn’t like the usual white/black/gray/sliver color palette.

My guess is bro truck couldn’t stop because wheel and tire package was too heavy for factory breaks. Also you can get an excellent e90 335 for that money

Geez, no kidding. The more premium the car, the harder it is to find any actual color, too. Best you can usually hope for is a nice navy blue.

Right now she’s eyeing an Infiniti JX35 over in Bellevue. A friend of her’s spooked her about Audi reliability and she’s done the Subaru thing and is over it. We’ll see how it shakes out. We might just borrow a bit from her parents until the house thing shakes out and get her something like the Lexus.

Ahhh damn lol

I would go for that, but she won’t do BMW. We’ve had that discussion and she thinks they’re for snobs and won’t be persuaded otherwise. She’s pretty much set on Lexus or Infiniti.

I really like the Lexus but it would be difficult to live with in the winter here, which you know is 8 months long.

The Lexus would have to come with AWD because she won’t do anything else. Luckily we don’t usually have the long winters with deep snow like you do so ground clearance isn’t as important here.

I think most of the newer Lexus come with AWD, the 250 and the 350. The back seat is very cramped tho. I have tall children. They would hate me like they hate me now with the Mazda 3, and that has a generous back seat. The Outback has a huge back seat. I sat in the middle last weekend on a 125 mile drive and was fine.

One of the key benefits of being empty nesters is the complete disregard of back seat capacity. That said, I’ll bet you a dollar she ends up with a Lexus or Infiniti CUV.

Sorry about the car! Hope the replacement makes her as happy. I had a lot of fun in my friend’s EX35 on curvy backroads and it’ll be familiar to her as well.

I don’t know where you’re located but the Acura TL SH-AWD is a good all weather v6 sporty sedan just like the G. Lexus IS is another option.
$18.4k, 41K miles
Or the RDX V6 AWD if she wants a Crossover?
$17.6K 74K miles
It’s REALLY hard to find something that’s not Black/White/Gray/Silver LOL

Infiniti? People like those?

I get that. I used to feel the same way. And a G was on my list of possibilities, or hit all the criteria, but there wasn’t any manual ones with a 4 hour drive, while my e90 was 5 minutes away. Sometimes convenience wins

This may sound a little off the wall, but you can get a pretty nice Kia K900 for like 24k. It’s really a crazy deal if you don’t mind the Kia badge and complete lack of sportiness.
